From the desk of Pastor David Slagle-217-473-1892.
Sunday morning drive to church, I was listening to southern gospel music and enjoying the nice weather. It is always great to open the doors of our church knowing that in just a little while there will be the sound of laughter as friends visit with each other. Sometimes it is hard to break into this time.
We offer our prayers and condolences to the families of Dianne Schofield and Dan Davidson in the passing of family members.
This morning our message was the Book of James Chapter 1:14-15: “The Course of Temptation.” Last Sunday we looked at the cause of temptation in this chapter. I have heard some say, “I can’t help it, God made me do it.” Which is not true. I invite you to read James 1:13-14. Sin is the weed that grows in our gardens. A weed left to grow will take over the space for a good plant to grow. A weed has three distinct features: it has a root, it has a shoot or stem, and a fruit. Left alone, this weed will produce more weeds that will take over the good soil. Sin produces evil desires within us. Once conceived, they take root, they produce a shoot(sin) they shoot up and finally become full grown, dangerous fruit, sin. There is no such thing as a little sin or a white lie. Sin is sin and a lie is a lie. If the desire of sin is left untouched in the heart, the shoot will emerge sooner or later and as the scripture says in Numbers 32:23: “your sin will find you out.”
Our recent prayer needs requests are Randy, Dianne, Dianne’s brother Dan, Ava, Dorothy, David. We invite you to join us each Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. for our morning worship service and at 6:30 p.m. for Wednesday evening bible study. Need to talk to someone, call the above number. God bless.
