Evans and Little lead the way in win over South County

Zack Evans and Chance Little combined to score 51 points to lead West Central to a 59-55 win over South County Dec. 19 at Waverly.
The Cougars (9-2) led 47-40 after three quarters, but South County cut the lead to 56-52 with 1:30 remaining in the game.
West Central missed two free throws on its possession. South County converted a three-point and trailed just 56-55 with 1 minute remaining in the game.
Ryker Ford made one of two free throws with 54 seconds remaining, and West Central led 57-55.
Evans grabbed an errant South County pass and drove in for a layup to extend the lead to 59-55 with 36 remaining. South County committed another turnover with 22 remaining. They missed a three-point shot in the final seconds as West Central held on for the victory.
Little scored inside, and Evans made a three-point basket to give West Central a 5-4 lead early in the game. Evans made another three-point basket, and the Cougars led 18-10 with 2:15 remaining in the quarter.
South County tied the game at 18 before Little made two free throws, and West Central led by two points after one quarter.
West Central led 23-21 before they scored nine straight points. Evans made a three-point basket, and Little scored to increase the lead to 28-21. They both scored again, and the Cougars led 32-21 with 3:13 remaining in the first half.
South County got within 32-28 later in the quarter. Evans scored with 1:06 remaining, and West Central led 34-28 at halftime.
The Cougars led just 37-35 in the third quarter before scoring six straight points. Little scored twice, and Evans scored as West Central led 43-35. Evans grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with 6 seconds remaining, and the Cougars led 47-40 after three quarters.
Evans scored 29 points, including 18 in the first half to lead the Cougars. He made five three-point baskets in the game. Little scored 21 points. He scored 11 in the second half, including nine in the third quarter.
Ford scored six points, and Carson Brown scored two.
South County won the junior varsity game 61-33. Gabe Howard scored nine points to lead West Central. Anthony Hance scored seven points, and Blayne Sidwell scored six. Zac Howard scored five points. Charlie Smith and Leighton Smith each scored three points.
