Pike County Sheriff/Coroner David Greenwood and Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Starman have jointly released information pertaining to the death investigation of Landon Hettinger, 17.
Jan. 21, at approximately 7:03 a.m. Pittsfield Police officers received a report that Hettinger was missing.
Officers began searching for the missing juvenile.
At approximately 9:01 a.m., Pittsfield Police Officers and the Pike County Sheriff/Coroner were dispatched to Illini Community Hospital for a report of a deceased male juvenile. The deceased male juvenile was identified as Hettinger.
The Pike County Sheriff/Coroner and Pittsfield Police Department conducted a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
As a result of the investigation Pike County State’s Attorney Walker Filbert has charged Dennis Shannon, 45, Pittsfield, with the following charges: felony contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor, felony give/sell alcohol to a minor resulting in death, involuntary manslaughter. Mr. Shannon is currently on pre-trial release for these offenses.
Involuntary manslaughter carries a possibility of 30 months probation up to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with six months mandatory release and a fine of up to $25,000. Criminal delinquency of a minor carries the same penalties as does the delivery of alcoholic liquor to a person under 21, resulting in death.
Shannon’s next court appearance is March 26.
Shannon is currently on pre-trial release for these offenses.
