Kevin Patton
On May 6, Deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of Kevin J. Patton, 27, of Kane for possession of controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine.
Patton later failed to appear in court and was subsequently apprehended on a Calhoun County warrant on June 13.
On June 18, under the provisions of the new House Bill 3653, known as the SAFE-T Act; due to the aforementioned charges being non-detainable offenses, Patton was released with a new court date.
While being released, it is alleged that Patton made multiple personal threats of great bodily harm to specific members of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, in which he described vehicles and residences.
Subsequently, Calhoun County State’s Attorney Lucas Fanning filed three new felony charges against Patton, which were three (x3) counts of threatening a public official, a Class 3 Felony.
Over the next several days, attempts were made to locate the suspect in multiple jurisdictions.
On June 25, Patton was apprehended by Sheriff William Heffington and was assisted by Illinois Conservation Police Sergeant Mike Goetten.
Patton appeared before the Honorable Judge Charles HW Burch, who denied pre-trial release and ordered the defendant be remanded to the custody of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and be held without bond pending further hearing.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Illinois Conservation Police, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, and the Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this matter.
All suspect(s) are innocent until proven guilty.
