A Jersey County man, arrested in Roodhouse in October of 2023 and charged with sexual assault of a minor, received probation at a hearing in Greene County Circuit Court on Friday, July 5.
Joseph Spurgeon, 22, of Grafton, was charged on Oct. 20 in Greene County Circuit Court with one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse , a Class 2 Felony, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a victim who is at least 13 years of age but under the age of 17.
According to a report from the Roodhouse Police Department, they responded to a call related to an alleged sexual assault involving a minor child. The officer responded to the scene and a subsequent investigation was begun.
Spurgeon pled guilty to the charge in front of Greene County Circuit Court Judge Zachary Schmidt who then sentenced Spurgeon to three years of adult probation. He was also ordered to pay court costs.
Spurgeon was represented by Public Defender Tom Piper.
