Raymond John Sievers | 66 | Meppen

Raymond John Sievers, 66, of Meppen, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by family and friends on July 27, 2024. Raymond fought hard for eight years with cancer and is at peace now with his Lord and Savior.
Raymond was born on April 6, 1958, to Edmond and Martha (Kronable) Sievers of Meppen. He graduated from Brussels High School in 1976. On Aug. 27, 1977, he married his first and ONLY love, Cindy Lorton. Together they had five children and gained five more children by marriage: Shawn and Kristin Sievers, Rachel and Ryan Benz, Chelsie and Clint Pluester, Lindsey and Phil McLaughlin and Hayden and Taylor Sievers. They were blessed beyond measure (and shared many bowls of ice cream) with their 20 grandchildren: Ella, Cade, Mary, Kiera, Walter, Rolen, Warner, Mya, Jessa, Henlee, Isabel, Henry, Raif, James, Ray, Winston, Rodney, Josie, Leo, and Rhett.
Raymond was very passionate in all things he did in life: farming, family, faith, yard games, moving dirt, building bonfires, rocking a baby to sleep and tinkering with anything that needed fixing. He was the ultimate Shepherd for his flock, and that included not only his family, but people he met through Koinonia, Cursillo, or those he came across in daily life and through his treatments at the hospital. Most of all, he held a profound and powerful love for his wife, Cindy. They have provided the ultimate example of “two becoming one” in marriage as their legacy for our family.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Cindy, his 10 children, 20 grandchildren, his mother-in-law, Jean Lorton; and his siblings: Roy (Helen) Sievers, Sandy (Jeff) Lorton, Marlene (Fred) Eilerman, Pat (Jena) Sievers, Duane (Kate) Sievers, Mindy (Greg) Snider and Missy (Tony) Rowling, Debbie (Eric) Flock, Chris (Brenda) Lorton, Lisa Lorton Dolan and all of his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddy and Martha; his father-in-law, George Lorton; his aunt and uncle (“honorary” parents), Henry and Mary Kronable; and his brother-in-law, Matt Lorton.
Raymond’s last words of wisdom to his family were, “If God reveals something to you, share it with everyone.” God revealed Himself to Raymond in John 3:17: “For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” Raymond was the living example of his last words of wisdom. If you were lucky enough, you got to experience your very own Rayology.
The visitation was held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Gress, Kallal, Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin, IL. Funeral Mass was Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 12 noon at St. Joseph’s Church in Meppen, IL. A funeral dinner followed at the KC Hall in Hardin, IL.
The family is encouraging anyone who wants to share a story about Raymond to write it down and bring it with them to create a memory book. In lieu of flowers, please make diaper or mother supplies donations to Calhoun For Life. Please bring items to the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Calhoun for Life, Koinonia, or St. Vincent DePaul.
Raymond Sievers, a man after God’s own heart.
