Winchester/Bluffs School Supt. Kevin Blankenship was our guest speaker at our July 16 meeting and was introduced by Kent Coultas. Dr. Blankenship gave an update on the town hall meetings and the community survey to help provide direction on the future of the Winchester High School building. The board of education will have to make a decision on what referendum to place on the November ballot at their August board meeting.
Terry Aossey gave us a report on the Winchester Car Show at our July 23 meeting. The weather was great, food was good with pork chops selling out, and over 180 cars around the square. Terry started the car show around 15 years ago and has organized/directed it every year since. Kevin Devlin presented his daughter-in-law Kaylie and her dog Leila to our July 30 meeting. Kaylie is a social media influencer and Leila has many followers of all her activities. Leila has an instagram page and Kaylie wrote a children’s book about her.
Kent Coultas showed fellow Kiwanians his state championship ring from the Class 1A State Champion West Central Cougars Boys Basketball Team. Kent has been involved with Winchester and West Central Basketball since the 1980’s.
The Illinois Pork Producers Association provided the pork chops at our cookout at Scotty’s parking lot on July 13. Thank you IPPA for helping us with this fundraiser.
Our food pantry numbers for July 13 were: 139 total, 57 families, and 53 children served. This was our highest numbers since February. We can always use community donations. Please see any Kiwanian or mail to Winchester Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 62, Winchester, IL 62694.
July drawing winners were: Dave Roberts, Janet Smith, Staci Evans, and Chris Dorsey. August program chairs include Bethany Doolin, Chris Dorsey and Stave Evens.
