Eura Mae ‘Julie’ Weaver | 97 | Rantoul

Eura Mae Weaver, 97, died at 7:46 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at her home in the Villas of Holly Brook at Rantoul.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1927, on the family farm east of Kane, Illinois, the fourth of five children born to the late Peter Roscoe and Grace Eldora (Hunt) Young.
Her nickname, Julie, came from an endearment from her grandpa, who called her “Eulie.” Her sister’s boyfriend misunderstood it as “Julie,” and somehow the nickname stuck.
Eura Mae married Lamar Weaver on May 6, 1953. He preceded her in death in August, 1994.
Before she moved to Rantoul in May, 2021, she lived her whole life in the Jerseyville area and worked at many places there: the International Shoe Factory; Maholland’s Restaurant; the Alton Vinegar Works; Mr. Drumstick; Shop and Save; and the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.
She was an excellent cook and homeworker and could do anything she set her mind to: sewing, knitting and crocheting; refinishing and upholstering furniture; cake decorating; wood carving; and fixing things around the house with ingenuity. She loved planting flowers; fishing (especially with her kids and grandkids); and was devoted to her many dogs.
In her late forties she achieved her G.E.D. and attended a beauty school that opened briefly in Jerseyville. For some time she operated a beauty shop in her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Lynette; her son, Dennis Lamar Weaver; a grandson, James Leonard Weaver; her sister, Eldora Stiles; her brothers, Richard, Robert and Theodore Young; and two friends she enjoyed spending time with in her later years, Gene King and Charlie Webster. Her faithful little Maltese dog, Gidget, passed away two days before her.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Tom Updike of Loda, Illinois; two grandsons in the Jerseyville area, Adam Weaver and Joe Weaver (and his wife, Ellie); and two great-grandchildren, Rose Eura and David Weaver. Also, Sandy’s dog, Shiloh, who loved to lick her “grandma’s” face and retrieve toys for her.
Special thanks to the staff and fellow residents (and their family members), in the Reflections Memory Care wing at the Villas of Holly Brook in Rantoul. Also, to Transitions Care Hospice, Champaign; and to good friend, Tracy Messer.
Arrangement are being made by Evergreen Cremation Services of Champaign. There will be no visitation or memorial services at this time.
In lieu of a memorial, love your dog and take time to marvel at the sunsets.
