Ali Little scored 26 points to lead West Central to a 51-47 win over No. 4 ranked Calhoun in girls’ basketball Feb. 6 at Bluffs.
Calhoun, who was ranked No. 4 in last week Class 1A state poll, led 31-29 before the Cougars closed the third quarter on a 9-2 run.
Sofie Grubb and Vicki McGee made consecutive three-point baskets to give West Central a 35-31 lead. Calhoun scored to get within two points.
Little converted a three-point play with 15 seconds remaining, and the Cougars led 38-33 after three quarters. Paisley Sturtevant set the basket up with a steal and an assist.
Little scored 11 points in the fourth quarter as West Central increased its lead to 50-37.
Little made two free throws to start the scoring in the quarter. Little grabbed an offensive rebound and scored, and West Central led 44-33. Little scored with 3:40 remained, and the Cougars led 48-33.
Ashlyn Likes scored off an assist from Little as West Central led 50-37 with 2:59 remaining.
Calhoun got within 50-43, and Little made a free throw to extend the lead to 51-43. Calhoun scored twice in the final 53 seconds to cut the final margin to four points.
Calhoun missed six shots and had two turnovers in the first 4 minutes of the fourth quarter.
Adrienne Kaufmann made a three-point basket, and Little scored after grabbing an offensive rebound as West Central jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The two teams were tied 14-all after one quarter.
The Cougars trailed 24-19 late in the second quarter. Grubb and McGee both scored, and West Central trailed by just one point at halftime.
Little made a free throw early in the third quarter to tie the game. Kaufmann made a three-point basket, and McGee scored as West Central took a 29-24 lead. Calhoun came back to take a 31-29 lead.
Kaufmann scored 11 points for the winners. McGee scored seven points and had eight rebounds and two assists. Grubb scored five points and had two assists.
Likes scored two points. Little had seven rebounds and had two steals. Sturtevant had three assists and two steals.
