Shirley Ann Long | 88 | Mozier
Shirley Ann Long, 88, of Mozier, IL passed away Tuesday afternoon May 13, 2025, at St John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Shirley was born July 12, 1936 in Atlas, a daughter of Gilbert and Helen Gray Saxbury, She married Kenneth Burdette Long on July 10, 1954 in Pittsfield at the home of Rev. Joe Maynard. The couple was married nearly 69 years before Burdette preceded her in death on June 29, 2023.
Shirley was a self employed Doctor of Naturopathy. Following Burdette’s retirement from the Air Force and Border Patrol, the couple became entrepreneurs owning several family style restaurants, three donut shops and a country store in Tennessee.
Shirley enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. Several years ago, the couple gladly returned to their “home places” in Calhoun and Pike Counties, Illinois.
Survivors include four children, Linda Handugan of Gilbert, AZ, Brenda Fields of Mozier, Steven Long of Elsberry, MO and Elizabeth Eaton of Ocean Park, WA; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Ruth Epley of Hull.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Burdette; a brother, Bruce Saxbury and a sister, Charlene Hull.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill conducted by Pastor Michael Thomas. Burial will follow at the Long Cemetery near Belleview. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
