Hazel Mae Moss | 94 | Jacksonville

Hazel Mae Moss, 94 of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Scott County, IL the daughter of Leonard “Ben” and Emma Gregory Hoots. She married Orval LeRoy Moss, and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2023.
She is survived by one grandson, John (Molly) Moss of Springfield; and four great grandchildren, Johnny, Zoey, Waylon and Hazel Moss.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Athur L. Moss; one daughter, Ellen Mae Moss; one brother, Richard “Dick” Hoots; one sister, Barbara Derricks; and four half-brothers, Carl Gregory, Harold Gregory, Gregory Hoots and Rolly Hoots.
Hazel worked as a pastry chef at the Jacksonville Country Club and helped her husband with bookkeeping for the family business, Moss Auctions. She was one of the kindest souls you would ever meet.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial to follow at Bloomfield Cemetery near Winchester. A visitation will be held Thursday at the funeral Home from 4 until 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
