Karla Jean Ormond | 75 | Timewell
Karla Jean Ormond, 75, of Timewell, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, at her home. She was born June 27, 1950, in Pittsfield, Illinois, the daughter of Robert (Bob) Oliver and Annetta Jean (Whitten) Fagan.
She married Maurice Patrick Ormond on Sept. 11, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2024.
She was a graduate of Perry High School and earned her nursing degree from Passavant College of Nursing in Jacksonville in 1971. Karla worked as a registered nurse for the Brown County School District, the Brown County Public Health Department, Blessing Hospital, and retired from Quincy Medical Group, where she served for many years in pediatrics. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and volunteered with Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. Karla was also active in the Brown County Home Extension, Brown County Garden Club, enjoyed book clubs, water aerobics, crocheting, crafts, and playing dominoes and bridge. She loved baking and shared her talents through beautifully decorated cakes for special events and holidays. Karla also enjoyed tending to her fish pond and flower gardens, family vacations, and treasured time with her grandson, Eli. In recent years, Karla and Maury spent winters in Florida, enjoying the warm weather and the many wonderful friends they met there.
Survivors include three children, Heather (Curt) Buxton of Mt. Sterling, Brandon Ormond of Champaign-Urbana and Brenna (Trey) Tomlinson of Quincy; one grandson, Eli Brandon Tomlinson; one brother, Ed (Diane) Fagan of Cerritos, California; brothers- and sisters-in-law John and Carolyn Ormond, Rosanne and Jim Ray, and Elaine Schrieber, all of Mt. Sterling; a close niece, Sue Ray of Mt. Sterling; and 10 additional nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Damon Ormond; one brother-in-law, Marvin Schrieber; and one niece, Amy Ormond Lucky.
A Funeral Mass was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating.
Burial followed in Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025 at Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling, with a Nurse Honor Guard Service at the conclusion of the visitation.
