Jersey County’s “Salute to America” starts this weekend, as Jersey County, the City of Jerseyville and the Jersey County Business Association bring three months of events celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The fun kicks off Friday, July 3, with the Firecracker Golf Tournament at Westlake Country at 12 p.m. and Popsicles with Police from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Wittman Park Splash Pad to start the Fourth of July weekend.
A special July Fourth celebration will take place Saturday with an Ice Cream Social provided by the Jersey County Historical Society at the county courthouse lawn at 4 p.m., followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence before Mattie Schell plays Rock the Block from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., before fireworks start at the American Legion at 9:30 p.m.
Events continue throughout July, leading up to the Jersey County Fair Parade on Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m., and will continue throughout the summer with a “Founders Week” celebration planned in August to recognize Jersey County’s establishment 187 years ago.
A schedule of events planned for the summer can be found on page A9.
