Lyndle L. Scranton, 100, of rural Nebo, IL passed away Wednesday evening Feb. 11, 2026 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.Lyndle was born Feb. 23, 1925 in Nebo, a son of Leroy Bertrum and Verna Edna Buchanan Scranton.
He married Ollie May McAfee on Sept. 25, 1948 in Pittsfield at the Pike County Courthouse with Judge Lee Capps officiating.
Lyndle was employed as a lineman for the Wabash Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on Nov. 24, 1984 and was a man who loved his family, friends and community.
Survivors include two children, Darrell Scranton of Pleasant Hill and Diane Simpson of Nebo, 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lyndle was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons, Mike Scranton and Steve Scranton, three sisters and three brothers. Lyndle was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services was held Monday, Feb, 16, 2026 at 1 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. Burial will follow at the Nebo Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
