The meteorologist was correct in saying it was a hot, humid week in store for us. In the low 90’s and high humidity. More of the same for the first couple of days this week but hopefully a break in temperatures and highs only in the low to mid 80’s. That we will certainly welcome and hopefully a shower of rain.
Congratulations to the 2026 Kampsville Royalty. Little Miss Lillian Willis, Little Mister Layton DeSherlia, Toddler Jovie Blackwell and Baby Kampsville Curtis Smith. Grand Marshal of their celebration parade was Virginia Becker.
Congratulations to Aloys and Ruth Kallal of Jerseyville who recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary with a total of 30 family members enjoying a Caribbean Cruise together on the Norwegian Cruise Line Prima. Among those attending were Riley and Molly Caselton Colette and Isaac and Eric and Lisa Kallal, Lucy and Gage Thornton and Charlie Kallal, were among those present from Hardin. Sorry to say I don’t have names of the others in attendance from the Kallal family. Sounds like they had a wonderful cruise and celebration. Many more happy anniversary’s to Aloys and Ruth.
Kaela Bick of O’Fallon, MO drove over to Calhoun on Friday. Her first stop was grandma Judy Bick in Batchtown who Kaela took to the Dr. that morning and in the afternoon, Kaela visited with her other grandparents Roy and Barb Hagen of Brussels. Kaela is the daughter of Derrick and Jan (Hagen) Bick.
The Calhoun Entertainment Company Jamboree was well attended on Sunday afternoon. The event was held at the St. Ambrose Hall in Kampsville. The country band and the singers provided a delightful afternoon of music along with a bit of comedy and the food was delicious as well. Under the direction of Jerry Sievers, the Jamboree was enjoyed by the many in attendance. Several new members were on board this year, sorry but the only one I can remember was Carter Haug, who sang a Marty Robbins solo and also joined the group of singers for many selections. He has a beautiful voice and we will be looking forward to seeing him in the Calhoun Entertainment Company from now on. I also have to brag on the young Hagen girls, grandchildren of Mike and Marian Hagen who have beautiful voices. My son-in-law and daughter, Dennis and Shelly Scherer drove over from Wright City, MO to attend and take me to the performance which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Yvonne Baecht of Golden Eagle, accompanied by her son and daughter-in-law Keith and Becky Baecht of Jerseyville attended the Memorial Service for Janet (Ambrose) Caselton, age 72, on Sunday afternoon at the Owls Club Hall in Alton. Janet was married to the late Marvin Caselton, Jr. She is survived by her two daughters Marci Gietl and Michelle Bodkin, both of Houston, TX and two grandchildren and a sister Tammie Bodkin of Rolla, MO.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Greg Mossman, age 77, who passed away on July 8. He grew up in Brussels where he attended school and later attended St. Louis University and played baseball. Later he attended SIU-Edwardsville where he earned his Master’s Degree. Greg enjoyed a 35 year career as a State Farm Agent. He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Jeff and Amy Mossman, Ryan and Ellen Mossman and Barry and Jennifer Mossman and their families. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Pat (Held) Mossman, sister Elaine and Jack Snyders and sister-in-law Yvonne and family of the late Duane Mossman. He was preceded in his death by his parents Frank and Evelyn Mossman, brother Duane, niece Lisa L’Abbate and grandchildren Abigail and Emma Mossman. Visitation was on Monday night and funeral on Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Church in Brussels.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Linda K. Heffington, age 59, who passed away on July 6. She was the daughter of the late Ellis and Wilma Heffington of Golden Eagle, also preceded in death by her brothers David and Jim Heffington. Visitation was on Monday, July 13. 10 a.m. until time of service at Anderson Funeral Home in Brighton. She is survived by her brother Larry Heffington of Kampsville and nieces Amy Sima and Natasha Heffington. Burial was in Woodburn Cemetery. Linda retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture as a Product Inspector.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Paulette (Caselton) Hartman, age 75, who passed away at her home on July 15 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the oldest of seven children born to the late Roland and Collette (Pohlman) Caselton. On November 20, 1982 she married John Hartman and they raised three children; Ann Marie (Jeremy) Kirn, Brian Hartman and Carla Hartman and three grandchildren Ethan, Carl and Aubrie Kirn. She is also survived by her siblings; Carole (Phil) Seiferman, Melinda (Kevin) Wieneke, Joe (Becky) Caselton and Jim Caselton and their families. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two infant siblings Darrell and Pamela Caselton, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Oliver and Maurine (Nolle) Hartman and a sister-in-law Jessie (Murphy) Hartman. Visitation on Wednesday evening at Gress, Kalla, Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels and on Thursday Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Brussels.
St. Barbara’s Church Picnic is this coming weekend July 25-26 at Batchtown. Lots of great food, games for children and adults, music, etc. Family style chicken and roast beef dinner served on Sunday.

PRAYER FOR OUR ARMED FORCES
Lamb of God, who laid down His life for us, be with those who serve in the various branches of our armed forces. Protect them from harm and bring all who are away from loved ones home. Guide them and protect them and provide them with great leaders. Help us to support them in any way that they need and bring unity and peace to our nation and to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen
