Lee Frederick will present his Hall of Fame award to Bluffs High School at a ceremony May 13 at 3 p.m. at the high school. He will meet well wishers at Evandy’s Boatel in Naples at 4:30 p.m. that evening.
Frederick, a 1962 graduate of Bluffs High School, was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches’ Hall of Fame at the organization’s banquet Apr. 30 at Redbird Arena in Normal.
Frederick started all four years at Bluffs and led the Bluejays to a 27-3 record in 1962. The Bluejays won the regional championship before losing to Galesburg at the Macomb Sectional. Bluffs also won the Winchester Invitational Tournament and the PMSC conference that year.
Frederick was named to the Little All-State team in 1961 and 1962. The Bluejays were 82-27 during his four years and won three District championships and one regional.
Frederick played college basketball at Bradley University and was a member of the school’s NIT championship team in 1964. He was the head coach at Oakland University in Michigan from 1979-84. Frederick served as a scout for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons under coach Chuck Daly.
Frederick is the President of Sports Tours International which arranges tours for sports teams from the United States and around the world.
Frederick was nominated for the Hall of Fame by Tom Newman. Newman was taught by Frederick’s mother at Meredosia.
