County looking for election judges

Calhoun County has announced that they are seeking election judges for the upcoming March general primary election and will be providing training on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
The county said in a press release that judge duties include preparing polling locations, assisting voters, canvassing, and reporting election results at the end of election night.
“The United States Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has designated January 30, 2024, as Help America Vote Day. This day of action is meant to assist election judge recruitment efforts in communities across the country. Calhoun County is actively recruiting election judges for the upcoming March 19, 2024, General Primary Election and beyond,” the release states. “Election Judges’ duties include setting up and preparing polling locations, including setting up voting equipment, signing in and processing voters, demonstrating voting procedures, assisting voters, closing the polls, canvassing, and reporting election results back to the counting center at the night’s end. Election Judges will be selected and trained by the local election authority and will receive compensation for their work on Election Day. Training day is done by attending one of two classes on February 27th in Hardin at 3:30 pm and 5:30.”
Requirements to be an election judge in Illinois include US citizenship, ability to read, write and speak English, reside in the precinct they are serving in, cannot be a candidate for any office in the election and cannot be a registered sex offender.
Residents that are 17 years old may also be able to serve as an election judge if they are a junior or senior in school who is in good standing with a GPA of at least 3.0.
