The Village of Hardin increased their regular donation to the Calhoun High School After Prom during their regular meeting on Wednesday, March 13.
Last year’s event had a great turnout with everyone going to Urban Air Adventure Park. Although the cost of the space doubled this year, the response from the kids was too positive to not return this year.
Mayor Dave Hurley said last year the board approved $250 but with an increase in cost, response from kids and the hard work of the after prom volunteers, he suggested they increase the amount.
“It’s a great cause. It’s good for the kids. A lot of work goes into it,” Mayor Hurley said.
After a quick discussion, the board unanimously decided not just to double the donation to $500, but double the suggested $500 and settled on $1000, which will come from video gaming funds.
In other new business, the board briefly discussed the issues surrounding food trucks coming into the village. Ultimately the board agreed to only allow food trucks during special events, which should require a special event permit and fee.
Mayor Hurley said after reviewing a survey on the subject, it appears that businesses aren’t necessarily opposed to food trucks during special events.
“In fact they support it,” he said.
After the discussion, the board unanimously approved a motion to not allow food trucks, with the exception of special events.
The board also discussed the Flower and Garden Expo, which was tabled during the prior month’s meeting.
After a brief discussion, the board approved the event for Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the riverfront.
