City of Barry awards Business Booster Program grant for new pet grooming parlor

At the regular April meeting of the Barry city council, council members awarded a $7,025 grant to resident Laura Sheppard to assist her start a new business in the community.
Barry City Administrator Jeff Hogge said that the grant was awarded as a part of the city’s Business Booster Program.
The Business Booster Program, Hogge indicated, is designed to assist entrepreneurs start businesses in Barry, which are unique to the community.
“We can put up up to $10,000 toward a new business if it’s going to be a unique business for the town,” Hogge said “It’s just designed to give help with startup money.”
Hogge said that the $7,025 Business Booster Program awarded to Sheppard will assist the entrepreneur to start up a pet grooming business in downtown Barry.
“She is starting up a dog grooming business called the Puppy Parlor,” Hogge said.
The business will be located at the northwest corner of Main and Bainbridge streets.
Hogge said that the business is planning to open as soon as the building’s owner makes improvements to the building’s plumbing to accommodate the needs of the pet grooming business.
“I believe they’re planning to open as soon as the plumbing work is done,” Hogge said.
Also approved at the April Barry City Council meeting was the payment of the latest pay request in the city’s ongoing sewer lining project.
The city approved a payment in the amount of $209,991.30.
Hogge stated that the city expects to receive one more pay request before the sewer lining project is complete.
