Marie E. Hembrough | 95 | Winchester

Marie E. Hembrough, 95 of Winchester passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at the Scott County Nursing Center. She was born April 7, 1929 near Arenzville the eleventh child of twelve to the late John C. and Clara Goodpasture Ginder. She married Richard R. Hembrough Feb. 19, 1950 in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death July 7, 2018.Marie was a 1947 graduate of Virginia High School and then worked at New Method Book Bindery in Jacksonville. She owned and operated Hembrough Implement with her husband from 1972 until 1992 where she was primarily the bookkeeper. She was a member of Scott and Morgan County Homemakers Extension for over 60 years, a member of Lady Landowners group, several women’s card clubs, Pinochle club since 1951, Jacksonville Antique Car Club for over 55 years, Superintendent of Culinary Arts at the Scott County Fair for 26 years as well as a 4H volunteer, and an Election Judge and long-time member of the Winchester United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, bird watching and baking.
Surviving are her children; Larry (Pam) Hembrough of Winchester, Rev. Kevin (Mary) Hembrough of Greenfield, Kathy (Rick) Peile of Pittsfield, nine grandchildren; Leah Hembrough, Dr. Shawn Fry, Suzanne Ford, Todd Hembrough, Richard O. Hembrough, Ryan Hembrough, Megan Little, Kaylee Peile, Brooklyn Peile, 19 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and her brother Dale (Linda) Ginder.
Preceding her in death was her son, Danny Hembrough (surviving wife Melinda Hembrough of Winchester), six brothers, Ralph Ginder, Paul Ginder, Alvin Ginder, Clyde Ginder, Wayne Ginder and Lloyd Ginder, four sisters, Blanche Henderson, Ruth Reichert, Mildred Lewis, and Helen Finn.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2025 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester with burial in the Winchester City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Winchester United Methodist Church.
