The Clendenny Brother’s store at Baytown, in the northern end of Calhoun County, was broken into some time Monday night and robbed. We hope the guilty ones will be caught and given the extreme penalty. The Clendenny store has suffered two or three other similar robberies in the past.

The coveted boat harbor on the Mississippi River across from Hamburg, for which Elsberry has been workin hard the past few months, came a step closer last Wednesday when President Truman signed a 1.7 billion dollar river projects bill. In this measure is a section which stipulates $50,400 for the Elsberry harbor. However, the President’s signature upon the bill carries no appropriations, it simploy clears the way for future appropriations by Congress, and until an appropriation of $50,400 is made for the local harbor, nothing can be done. If and when this appropriation is made, receiving the money would still be contingent upon Elsberry’s ability to raise its share of the construction expense.

County maps will be available so that residents can mark on them to show if they are interested in being on Phase Four of the Rural Water project. The maps will be in all five banking locations throughout Calhoun in the post offices of Hamburg, Batchtown, Mozier, and Golden Eagle as well as in County Treasurer Curt Robeen’s office.
