Glendon ‘Jack’ Guy Coates | 94 | White Hall
Glendon “Jack” Guy Coates, 94 of White Hall, IL died peacefully Wednesday morning at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 25, 1931 in Hillview, IL the son of Alva Glenn and Lena Mae (Cotter) Coates. He married Sylvia Irene Sullivan on April 12, 1953 in White Hall, IL. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2018.
Jack is survived by two sons, David (Joyce) Coates and Jonathan (Della) Coates, both of White Hall, IL; five grandchildren, Jason Coates, Eric (Alexis) Coates, Jennifer (Corey) Kraushaar, Tyler (Christina) Coates, and Chantae (Fabian) Grisby; 13 great grandchildren, Axel Coates, Aiden Coates, Addison Kraushaar, Adriana Kraushaar, Adelise Kraushaar, Benjamin Kraushaar, Kennedy Coates, Grace Adams, Jocelyn Coates, Antjuan Coates-Jacinto, LaJuana Coates-Jacinto, Amya Grisby, and LuVon Grisby. Jack is survived by four siblings, Edna Moran, Shirley Hillis, David Katzenmaier, and Gary Coates. He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenyon Cotter.
Jack was a member of the White Hall Pentecostal Church, teaching Sunday School and serving in various other capacities. Jack served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked many years at General Motors in St. Louis, MO and later worked many years at Smith-Kline Beecham (now Zoetis) in White Hall. Jack served the White Hall community many years as a volunteer fire fighter. He loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed playing saxophone, and he had a passion for carving.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 at White Hall Pentecostal Church, 325 E. Douglas Street in White Hall with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is assisting the family.
