Vera Leah Herter | 98 | Golden Eagle

Vera Leah Herter, 98, of Golden Eagle, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025.
She was born in Golden Eagle on Dec. 3, 1927. She was the youngest child born to Gottlieb and Nevada Herter. Albert and Melba were her siblings.
She trained as a nurse and became an anesthesiologist at the Missouri State Hospital. She started there in 1954 and retired in 1996.
She never lost her love for Calhoun and visited and ran the family farm in Golden Eagle.
The last eight years she was in the care of the Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center in Hardin.
Having never married or had children, she is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels.
Graveside service and burial followed at 11:15 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Brussels.
