Alvin F. Marsh, 96, of Jacksonville, formerly of Bluffs, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born, Aug. 1, 1929, in Winchester, the son of Frank and Eileen Carlton Marsh. He married Carolyn Nienhiser, Nov. 28, 1955, and they later divorced. He married Beverly A. Dotzert Brodman, June 13, 2003.
Surviving is wife, Bev of Jacksonville; children, Mary Ann (David) Dorsey and Steven Alvin (Jana) Marsh; step daughter, Andrea (Dave) Barbknecht; grandchildren, Allen (Shelby) Dorsey, Michael (Nikki) Dorsey, Shawn (Megan) Dorsey, Elizabeth (Austin) Bradshaw, Audra Marsh, Timothy (Vanna) Marsh, Chandler Marsh; step grandchildren, Bethany (Mike) Potthuff, Brynn (Mike) Rodriguez, Breanna (Joe) Herink, Carter (Stephanie) Wilkey, Hannah Wilkey, and Lizzie Pugh; great grandchildren, Liam, Owen, Andrew, Michael Jr., Auggie, Eve and Rosemary; step great grandchildren, Graham, Griffin, Rose, Anders, Ealin and Eloise; sister, Shirley Terell; brother-in-law, Donald Terrell; nephews, Travis (Patty) Terrell and Randy (Scott) Terrell and niece, Stacy Terrell. He was preceded in death by stepson, Corey Wilkey.
Alvin was a proud retired US Navy Veteran serving for 30 years. He did 4 seasons with Hurricane Hunters and 2 years on USS Franklin D. Roosvelt. When someone would thank him for his service, his reply was always “Thank you. I enjoyed it, I saw the world.” Within his military career, he won many trophies for tennis, golfing and bowling. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluffs and the Bluffs American Legion. Alvin was known as the pumpkin man from all who visited the Sand Burr Pumpkin Farm.
A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluffs. A visitation was held Monday, 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
