This area had a beautiful few days last week Monday through Thursday, in the 59’s and 60’s, then by the weekend cooler, a high of 28 on Saturday and yesterday reached 26. At least the snow predicted for Saturday stayed away.
Congratulations to Phil and Carole Seiferman who celebrated their 50th Anniversary recently. The dinner and reception were hosted by their son Ben Seiferman, his wife Amari and their two daughters of Lenexa, Kansas. Joining them for dinner at Castelli’s Moonlight Restaurant in Alton were Kevin and Melinda Wieneke, Paulette Hartman, Joe and Becky Caselton, Jim Caselton, Larry and Susie Meyer, Debbie Murphy and Dan Tepen and Amari’s parents. Best wishes to them for many more years to come.
On Friday the Brussels Woman’s Club were finally able to enjoy their belated Christmas luncheon, gift exchange and a short meeting at the Fill-In in Batchtown. Due to illness only five members were present; Elaine Eberlin, President, Judy Burch Secretary, Jean Barton Vice President, Carol Sue Carnes Treasurer and member Susan Haug-Kinder. The ladies enjoyed a delicious meal, followed by gift exchange. Since the next meeting and luncheon will not be until Friday, March 20, at the Wittmond Hotel, a short meeting was held discussing membership, future monetary donations where needed and various other items.
Congratulations to Jeff Kamp, Junior High Softball Coach, from Golden Eagle who was recently nominated as the 2025 ICA 8-2A Softball Coach of the Year.
John, Julie and Caleb Carnes of Edwardsville visited on Sunday afternoon and evening with their parents Francis Toppmeyer and myself. Thanks, John, for taking down and putting away all my Christmas decorations, along with other jobs I had for him. And I know Francis as well appreciated what Julie did for him. They also brought dinner from Edwardsville which they finished cooking at Francis’ house. Mark, Mary and Max Toppmeyer joined them for dinner and a nice visit afterwards.

PRAYER FOR: Sanctity of Human Life Day, January 22
Father in Heaven, You sent Your Son, Jesus, to take on our flesh. He became a man so we could be redeemed and brought into Your family through faith. Help us remember that every life is precious and that all people, from the womb to old age, are precious to You. Give us courage to care for people at every stage of life. On this day we are reminded of the precious gift of life and the sacredness of every person created in the image of God. Amen
