The past week was rather nice, temperatures ranging from 50 to 63 degrees. On Saturday a bit cooler and a light rain for the majority of the day. As for this week, it continues to be nice and even predictions for Wednesday and Thursday to reach 70. I know winter isn’t over until March 20, which is the first day of spring, but I have seen snow up to the end of March in the past. Time will tell!
Congratulations to Reese Kiel and Catherine Hoecker of Columbia, MO who were wed on Feb. 13 in Paradise Islands, in the Bahamas. (More to report on this next week)
Lynette Eberhardt of Chenoa, IL drove down on Thursday to visit her mother, Yvonne Baecht, for several days. On Saturday she and her mother, along with Daniel and LeAnn Baecht and Connor, Matthew Baecht and friend and Sue Underwood joined Keith and Becky Baecht and Samuel at their home in Jerseyville. Becky had prepared a wonderful dinner for all the family that day to celebrate both Keith’s and Yvonne’s Birthday. Best wishes to both of them, Lynette returned home on Sunday.
My daughter, Cyndi Axford of Chesterfield, MO drove over on Wednesday to take me to Jersey Community Hospital for tests. Afterwards we enjoyed a great meal at Harvest Home Restaurant. Upon returning home Cyndi vacuumed and dusted for me which was much appreciated, thanks also for the food you brought.
I received notice that St. Mary’s Altar Society held their February Quilt Drawing on Friday, February 6 during their monthly meeting at the church hall. Congratulations to the winner of the beautiful quilt Karen Novosel of the Hardin area.
My visitors on Sunday afternoon were Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City, MO and their grandson, my great grandson, Sam Holdinghausen, They came with a full meal for later in the day. Not long afterwards another car drove in, granddaughter Ashley Kirn, Noah and Addy from Wentzville to surprise me to celebrate Valentine’s Day a day late. Had an enjoyable visit with everyone and at 5 p.m. we all enjoyed the delicious beef roast, carrots, potatoes and onion along with a salad and lemon pie for dessert. Dennis worked on a few things for me and Shelly cut and curled my hair. I have been unable to drive due to a bad right shoulder and pain down my arm. This week I go for an MRI, hopefully we will get to the bottom of my problem soon. I enjoyed my visitors and especially spending time with the great grandchildren. Thanks so much to all of you for spending the afternoon with me and the meal as well. Ashley and her friend Ben Ketcherside just returned on Saturday from a week’s cruise to Nassau, Bahamas so we got to see all the beautiful photos and hear of the great time they had.
I was so saddened to hear today of the passing of Julie Pohlman, wife of Fred Pohlman III of Grafton. Another victim of that dreaded “C” word, who was placed on Hospice the end of January. Sorry, but I don’t know any funeral arrangements at this time. My heart goes out to all the family who I am keeping in my prayers.
Now that Lent is starting I saw dates of some of the Friday Fish Fry’s. This Friday, Feb. 20, at the K. C. Hall, Friday, Feb. 27, also the K. C. Hall but hosted by the Hardin Legion. March 6 St. Norbert’s School, March 20 the Brussels American Legion and also March 27 Brussels American Legion. Mark your calendar with these dates.

PRAYER FOR ASH WEDNESDAY
God the Father Almighty, have mercy on us. We confess our sins to You, especially on this Ash Wednesday. We come before you in sackcloth and ashes, acknowledging that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed. We repent, anew, on Ash Wednesday, remembering that the Christian life is woven through daily contrition and repentance. Without Your forgiveness we would be dust. In the name of Jesus, Amen
