Hopefully I am on the mend and back to writing my Point News. In the hospital on May 1 for several heart procedures and then back home and a week later had severe pain in my right shoulder. Must have lifted something wrong, so back to hospital for x-rays and MRI which discovered a badly inflamed tendon with severe pain. Tried pain patches and ice pack, then back to Dr. for shot of Cortisone in shoulder joint. After 10 days and more ice packs I can finally say the pain has subsided. With it being my right arm, it really limited what I could do. I pray this is it for now.
Congratulations to Hunter and Lacy Lawrence who were wed on May 17 in Bauxite, Arkansas. Hunter is the son of Mike and Kelly Rose of Beebee, AR. Attending the wedding and reception from this area were grandparents Roger and Patti Roseof Brussels and Uncle Tim, Aunt Denise & sons of Golden Eagle.
The Brussels Woman’s Club met on Thursday, May 21 at St. Matthew Church Hall. The meeting was first on the agenda with nine members present. Congratulations to our club who won first prize in the Calhoun County Foundation Cash for Trash program. Thanks to my son John and grandson Caleb who helped pick up trash on a couple of weekends for our club. The check we received for $142 was used to purchase four flats of Vinca flowers for the club’s Memorial Garden in the Brussels Heritage Park. Thanks to Judy Klemme for purchasing and planting these annuals. The Club also decided to keep collecting tabs from beverage cans for the Ronald McDonald House. If you have any saved for us, please drop off at my house, Elaine Eberlin’s (or the Bank of Kampsville in Brussels). Thanks to everyone for their help with this project. After the business portion of meeting concluded Jean Barton, Chairman of the May project, with the help of club members, filled 10 large laundry baskets with cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, items for kitchen and bath, and even personal items. This project began when Jane Herter was a member and after her passing Jean Barton willingly took this over. These large baskets are then delivered each year by Jean to the Women’s Crisis Center for Abused Women. Thanks to all the members for donating these items. Hostess for the day was Elaine Eberlin who served delicious lemon and strawberry pie with iced tea.
The Brussels District 42 Grade School Graduation was held on Wednesday evening, May 20, at the Brussels Gym. Congratulations to the 8th Grade graduates, Ava Tepen, Mason Kasinger and Evelyn Spurlock.
Kindergarten teacher Denise Rose had twelve (12) students graduating the week of May 18 and now they will be heading to first grade in the fall.
Brussels High School Graduation was on Saturday evening, May 23. Congratulations to the graduates: twins Levi and Leila Schulte, Audrina Pohlman. Mady Nolte, Dylan Droege, Dayton Brundies, Summer Schneider and Augie Eberlin.
That evening after BCHS graduation a party was held at the Brussels American Legion Hall for Brussels High School graduates Dylan Droege, Mady Nolte and twins Leila and Levi Schulte. Lots of great food and many family and friends were in attendance.
Please remember, Friday, June 5, is the first Brussels Music in the Park. Entertainment will be provided by Cash Goetten and the RoeDean Revelers from 7 to 10 PM. Bring your lawn chairs, food is available to purchase, pulled pork sandwiches, nachos, soda and bottled water. A night out with great music and no cooking, 50/50 tickets will also be sold. The second Music in the Park will be June 19 music by Behavior Intervention.
This week St. Matthew Church is holding Vacation Bible School with over 120 children enrolled. Each of the children will meet Monday-Friday for a Bible Story, Bible Challenge, Skit, Games, Music, Crafts and snacks beginning at 7 p.m. Last week the high school through college students spent three evenings becoming familiar with the Bible stories, designing skit sets and props and preparing to lead the children this week. Leaders are Amanda Brodbeck, Lea Miller and Debbie Kamp.
Many thanks to my daughter, Cyndi Axford who spent a day with me last Saturday. She brought a delicious lunch and afterwards cleaned my house, changed my bed and other jobs I wasn’t able to do at the time. Last Sunday afternoon my son John arrived, also bringing prepared food and doing lots of jobs indoors and out for me. I so appreciated all their help.
A graduation party was held last weekend at the Franke Ball Park in Batchtown for four graduates of Calhoun High School. Max Toppmeyer, Blake Nolte, Jack Goode and Jack Zipprich. Lots of delicious food and beverages provided by their families and enjoyed by the many in attendance.
Don’t forget the Art in the Park being held Saturday, June 13 at Brussels Heritage Park, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The South County Library Board is hosting this annual event and to date they have 25 vendors.
Birthday Blessings this week to my great grandson Elliot Holdinghausen on his 2nd birthday, also my grandson-in-law David Morrow, Jerry Zahrli, Karla Ellis, Jessica Droege, David Titus, Hope Wilschetz, Joseph Brangenberg, Emma Hoemmen, Catherine Kamp, Jack Hagen, Corree Snyders, Ashley Affholder, Mary Lee Rose, Kinsley Plummer, Bernell Weigel and all others celebrating their natal day at this time.
Happy Anniversary to Don and Jenny (Eberlin) Nagel, Caleb and Sarah (Rose) Angel, Michael and Jordan Hoemmen, Kyle and Kris Hagen, Terry and Elaine Wieneke, Marty and Mary Eilerman, Ed and Brenda Kinder and all other couples celebrating a wedding anniversary this week.

Heavenly Father, our guide and protector, we thank You for students who have recently graduated. Thank You for directing them in their studies with wisdom and excellence. Bring to their remembrance Your love in Christ and Your purpose for each and every one of them. As Jeremiah the prophet wrote, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and plans to give you hope and a future.” Amen
