Summer has definitely arrived, the temperatures for this week from 94 to 97 and humidity reaching as high as 110. Thankfully we did get a nice shower of rain late Saturday afternoon. I feel sorry for those who work outdoors this week and for the rest of the summer. Hopefully they will be able to start earlier in the day.
The Brussels Woman’s Club met on Thursday afternoon at St. Matthew Church Hall. Eight of our ten members were present. Elaine Eberlin, Judy Burch, Jean Barton, Mary Kirn, Margaret Nolte, Sarah Wilschetz, Julie Eberlin and myself. Lots of business was discussed since we will not be meeting again until October. Jean Barton, Program Chairman presented an interesting program on the plant in everyone’s yard known as “Plantain”, an edible weed packed with healing and nutritional properties and its many uses. A thank you was received from Oasis Center for Abused Women who were very appreciative of the many laundry baskets we filled with kitchen tools, cleaning products, linens, laundry detergent and even personal products. When these ladies can leave the center and be on their own these items will come in very handy. Many thanks to Hostess Mary Kirn who served delicious cream puffs and iced tea.
On Friday my company for the day was my daughter and son-in-law Shelly and Dennis Scherer of Wright City and their four grandchildren (my great grandchildren). Noah and Adelaide Keppler of Wentzville and Sam and Elliot Holdinghausen of Festus. At noon lunch was served and later in the afternoon we celebrated the June birthdays of Adelaide, now ten and Elliot who was two, with cupcakes and ice cream and of course gifts. Noah, now 14, recently graduated from Wentzville North Point Middle School and will be attending Wentzville North Point High School in late August and his sister Adelaide will be attending Wabash Elementary and Sam will be attending Jefferson County Telegraph Elementary. I really enjoyed their company and with Noah and Adelaide just returning from a cruise to Alaska with their mom Ashley Kirn they had lots to talk about and photos of all they saw.

Enroute home they visited the Hannibal, MO Visitors Center. Sounds like they all had an interesting and enjoyable trip.

PRAYER FOR 250th CELEBRATION OF THE USA
Almighty God, who has given us this great land for our heritage, we humbly beseech You that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Your favor and glad to do You will. This year as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the USA we are grateful for the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence, among these rights are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. May we never take these rights for granted or forget the responsibilities these rights bestow upon all of us, especially the need for our vigilance and our participation to preserve these sacred rights into the future. And finally God, we pray that we may become the nation we pledge our allegiance to. “The United States of America: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Amen
