Hard to believe summer break is over and all the students are heading back to school. It appears the ones with the most smiles are the ones going to preschool and Kindergarten. I’ve been enjoying the photos on Facebook, especially of the smaller ones so happy to go, leaving mom shedding a few tears.
Sorry, no Point News last week, as I was out of town all week. Melinda Snider accompanied me to Sandusky, Ohio to the Kalahari Resort for the National (UPMA) Postmasters Convention. This area is quite beautiful and Sandusky on the shores of Lake Erie. A busy schedule for the week as I had Signature Federal Credit Union Board Meeting all day Saturday and that evening the credit union CEO took the group out for a steak dinner. Sunday we attended the non-denominational church service and had the afternoon free. Monday enjoyed the opening ceremony of the convention and the entertainment. Guest speaker for the day was Postmaster General Louis DeJoy of Washington, DC Headquarters. That evening the Ohio Postmasters hosted a Welcome Dinner for the almost 1,000 in attendance, both active and retired. Tuesday guest speaker was Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino. Every afternoon was filled with training classes for the active postmasters. Wednesday another business session in the morning, Retiree Luncheon at noon, followed by our Credit Union Annual Meeting. Thursday the last morning of business session with the afternoon free. We took this time to tour the city of Sandusky, visit the different piers on Lake Erie, toured the Merry-Go-Round Museum, which once was a Post Office facility, but now converted into displays of antique carousel animals, along with a huge working carousel in the middle of the workroom floor which we even got to ride. Had lunch on the Jackson Street Pier and then visited their beautiful park filled with every blooming flower imaginable. That evening was the Grand Banquet and more great entertainment. Friday afternoon flew back to St. Louis.
Jeff and Chelsea Bonner, Candice Snyder and Margaret Wimmersberg drove to Lincoln, Nebraska recently to attend the Garth Brooks Concert at the Memorial Stadium. I was told the concert was nothing short of amazing and I know Garth does put on a great concert. So happy they got to attend this enjoyable event.
Rae and Jean Payne of Bloomington spent the weekend with her parents Bob and Bonnie Held and grandma Marie Held. Bob certainly enjoyed their help with all the mowing and trim work.
St. Matthew Lutheran Church hosted a buffet dinner after church service on Sunday. The dinner was to celebrate and honor all those confirmed during the past year and a half. Due to Covid no dinners had been planned for the youth and adult confirmands. Many thanks to Cindy Jenkins and Erna Halemeyer for preparing the delicious dinner and desserts.
Keith Herter of Phoenix, Arizona flew to St. Louis last week to participate in a yearly Charity Golf Tournament, his 17th in a row. Before returning home he visited with relatives in Calhoun. His aunt Virginia Murphy certainly enjoyed his visit.

PRAYER FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS
God of wisdom and knowledge, enlighten the children and youth of our land as they return to school for another year of learning and growth. Open their minds and hearts to learn what is fruitful for their life of service to you. As another school year begins, we also thank You for God-fearing teachers in our public and Christian schools who faithfully carry out their challenging vocation. Grant them the ability to help their students develop the wisdom, knowledge and life skills they need. Guide them in sharing Your grace and truth in caring and creative ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen
