Welcome June! Summer is in full swing. Did you know June is Men’s Health Month? This is a national awareness observance held every June to promote early detection, prevention, and treatment of health issues affecting men and boys. It focuses on physical health, mental health, and reducing preventable illness through education and screenings. Men’s Health Month encourages men to (1) get an annual physical and track BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose; (2) Discuss prostate and colorectal cancer screening based on age and risk factors; (3) Address mental health openly and seek support when needed; (4) Build healthy habits and strengthen social connections. (www.menshealthmonth.org) What are you waiting for – make an appointment and get a clean bill of health! You’ll have a much more relaxed summer.
You may have noticed some construction activity at both the Griggsville and Perry campuses of GP’s school district. There are a lot of exciting improvements happening at the school, but please keep clear of both buildings during the summer months. The construction zones contain equipment, tools and materials that may be dangerous, and the barriers you see are set for a reason! Please be patient as the work is being done.
Don’t forget the Detroit United Methodist Church will be hosting a summer Bible study beginning June 9, at 6pm through July 21. The study is titled “Called” and will focus on discovering God’s purpose and calling in everyday life through the study of Scripture.
An eight-week Bible study exploring the life and faith of King David will also begin June 9 at 10am at the Pioneer Express in Perry. Everyone is welcome! For information on either study, please contact Pastor Robb at [email protected].
The North Pike District Library will be hosting Quincy Children’s Museum at Perry Park on June 18th from 9am-10:30am. A variety of toys and activities for kids of all ages will be set up for the morning. Be prepared for some potentially messy fun! Breakfast will be served as well. This event is all part of the library’s “Read, White & Blue Summer” festivities.
The Bright Star Parish will host a couple of Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs this summer, offering children opportunities for fun, learning, and spiritual growth. A community VBS program will take place in Detroit from July 6-10, from 6:30pm-8pm each evening. Titled “The Story of Creation,” the program will explore God’s creation with an emphasis on stars, light and the power of God’s word.
The second VBS program will be held at Perry United Methodist Church from July 27-30, from 6pm-8pm each evening. This program includes a light meal and features the theme “Families of the Bible,” highlighting stories of faith from scripture.
