The last two weeks were filled with graduations, and Memorial Day events. Some of the families reported information about some of the students and their families who celebrated.
We are very proud of all the graduates of Calhoun High, and Brussels High schools and we congratulate all of them. Calhoun High School’s students graduated on Friday, May 22, and Brussels graduates graduated May 23. Some of them are reported here.
The Calhoun High School Valedictorian was Jack Zipprich, and the Salutatorian was Emma Rose. There were two Valedictorians at Brussels High School, Mady Nole, daughter of Chad and Melissa Nolte of Golden Eagle, and Audrina Pohlman, the daughter of Scott Pohlman of Brussels, and Jessica Pohlman of Golden Eagle. The Salutatorian was Leila Schulte, the daughter of Alex and Justine Schulte of Golden Eagle. Congratulations to all.
There were many get-togethers after graduation. Some of them were: Emma Rose daughter of Brad and Anna Rose who had a party on May 24 at their home. Emma’s brothers, Bradley, William, and Nicholas were there, and grandmothers, Marilyn Klockenkemper, and Diana Rose, and Great Grandmother, Joyce Simon. A nice crowd of relatives and friends enjoyed a delicious meal, and good conversation at Emma’s graduation party.
Marissa Fraley daughter of Luke and Kari Fraley enjoyed a house party after graduation at their home in Kampsville, Sunday, May 24, her brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, all enjoyed her special day.
Hannah Klaas daughter of Eric and LeaAnn Klaas had a graduation party at her home in Batchtown on Sunday, May 24. Grandparents, Virgil and Angeline Klaas, and Lois Clowers, and family and friends attended making it a special day.
Eldon and Christine Johnes, and Bernard Mager, grandparents of graduates also attended the graduations of Leila Schulte, and Dayton Brundies at Brussels High School.
Many families celebrated at the Knights of Columbus building in Hardin., and the Batchtown Franke Ball Park for their graduation parties. The graduates at the Park were: Jack Goode, Jack Zipprich, Anabel Eilerman, Max Toppmeyer, John Glynn, Hudson Roth, Sadie Kiel, Stella Gress, Rodney Johnson and Blake Nolte.
Shylar Giberson celebrated with family and friends at the Illinois Riverdock Restaurant Sunday, May 24th. They all enjoyed their special day at several locations.
Santina Siemer’s parents, Dave and JoAnna Disibio, are visiting from California for their granddaughter’s college graduation. Kaylee Siemer graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville with her Bachelor of Science Degree for Agriculture Business. Congratulations Kaylee!
The Music in the Park at the Brussels Heritage Park will be held June 6 There will be music for several weeks. It sounds like a lot of fun.
Brad and Anna Rose had a graduation party for their daughter Emma who graduated from Calhoun High School May 22. There was a nice crowd of family and friends who came and enjoyed the day with Emma.
Ellie Sievers celebrated her eleventh birthday last Sunday, with her parents, Paul and Liz Sievers, Grandparents, Roy and Helen, aunts, uncles, and cousins. All had a good time. Happy birthday Ellie, have a wonderful year.
The Batchtown Woman’s Club met for their monthly meeting June 2nd. The members discussed a summer event for the community. The members are Jean Tepen, Robin Hillen, Karen Friedel, Marilyn Klockenkemper, Elaine Titus, Barb Margherio, Sharon Friedel, and Marcy Klockenkemper.
Beginning June 1st through August a Grief Therapy Class will be offered by Angie Goode at St. Norbert’s School at 401 Vineyard St. Hardin, Il. Contact Angie Goode through Facebook Messenger at 618-5535-4435. Everyone is welcome.
The Art In the Park Show is coming up on June 13, 2026 at the Heritage Park in Brussels. Artists from the area will show their Art work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come and enjoy the day.
Dr. Jacob Maag, veterinarian, has office hours every Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Building in Batchtown. Everyone is welcome.
The Cornerstone Church has Sunday Service at 10:45 a.m. Bible Class is every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
The Catholic Church Service on Sunday morning will switch over to St. Barbara’s in Batchtown Sunday, June 8th at 8:00 a.m. for the next six months. Everyone is welcome. They switch every six months.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry, and Clothing Store is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. except on the fifth Wednesday of the month.
St. Vincent DePaul Society Helps with Rent, Utilities, Mortgage, GED, and Help with other agencies. Call the volunteer hot line at 1-618-310-1141 for assistance.
