I always enjoy receiving trip details by Cheri Myers. And this one will not disappoint. Hope you all take time to read and enjoy.“Turning 66 on Route 66” by Cheri MyersPart one: Oct. 17-18, 2021Beginning Oct. 17, I traveled with two friends from high school, Theresa Sidwell of Pittsfield and Beth Reeder of Bloomington, to celebrate my 66th birthday on Route 66. We flew to Los Angeles, got a rental car and drove to Santa Monica Pier where Route 66 begins. The next morning we went to the original Muscle Beach, the site of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello’s movie, Muscle Beach Party in 1964. On Wilshire Boulevard we drove by the La Brea Tar Pits, the new Academy of Motion Pictures Museum that I had heard about on the Turner Classic Movie station. We parked next to the Hollywood High School which had a mural painted of several celebrities that went to school there including John Ritter and Carol Burnett; from there we walked to Hollywood Boulevard where we enjoyed the footprints in the forecourt of the 1926 Grauman’s Chinese Theatre; the first footprints were in 1927 by Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. We walked part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame and even got our names put on a star (temporarily, of course). The Walk of Fame began in 1960 and now has over 2,700 stars. Director Stanley Kubrick was the first permanent star to be completed. While we were there, there was a movie premiere for The Eternals in front of the El Capitan Theater where Citizen Kane premiered in 1941. Rodeo Drive where there is a very exclusive men’s store called The House of Bijan where you have to make an appointment for $1,500 just to get inside!
