And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. Genesis 1:5-7

Cleve and Susanne Curry recently visited Bedford, Ind. where daughter Sarah and Kevin are now situated in their new church assignment. A little side trip was enjoyed to see the beautiful church where Rev. and Mrs. Stevan Manley attend, and to venture south to the summer camp meeting of which Rev. Stevan is president. A service was in session which was observed and enjoyed, but sorry to have had to leave before making contact with these friends. Many will remember that Stevan Manley was a graduate of Perry High School around 1969. He came to Christ around that time and has been a faithful Christian all these years. Also he brought the outdoor tent meeting back to our area several summers, around 20 years ago or so, on his parents’ property northwest of Fishhook. Attending those meetings was spiritually refreshing though it was quite hot and humid in this area then. It is with thanksgiving we remember Harry and Mary Manley providing a place for these ‘old-time’ camp meeting events. Time passes, but the memories of those events are still fresh in the minds of those who experienced them.

The Pittsfield High School Class of 1973 met at Pizza Hut for their Class Luncheon Friday, July 22. Those who came from out of state were Brent Browning of Tennessee, Marion Peters and her husband Mike of Oklahoma, and Nancy Bloom of Kansas, and those who came locally were Becky Ghrist, Cheri Myers, Gary and Sharon Williams, Jeannie Hartman, Joe Womble, Marvin Reel, Theresa Reel, and Wyvetta Davis. No one probably realizes just how good it is to get together as a group and enjoy a meal and conversation unless you have had to eat meals alone. These luncheons are a great way to connect and are something to look forward to.
Saturday, July 23, was the 56th annual Garner Reunion held at Lake Hannibal with, would you believe, 56 in attendance. I really enjoyed being there to visit with everyone. And it was so interesting to hear some family history facts and see older pictures. Reunions don’t just happen overnight, folks. They take lots of work and planning to do. And then everyone who wants to attend has to make plans to take time off work to do so plus to figure exactly what food they want to bring. Appreciate all the time and effort that has always gone into our family reunions.
