No Point News last week due to my being out of town all week. I attended the UPMA Postmasters National Convention in St. Louis. Approximately 900 Postmasters, active and retired, and guests were in attendance. On Saturday I attended the all day Board Meeting of the Signature Federal Credit Union. I still serve as Secretary to the Board since being elected back in 1985 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Saturday night, the Credit Union treated us to a wonderful dinner at the 801 Chop House in Clayton. Daily business sessions were held each morning while I worked in the Credit Union Booth, and afternoons were devoted to training classes. Sunday morning was the Non-Denominational Church Service and that evening the Missouri Chapter hosted a Welcome Dinner.
Monday night was States Night and Tuesday was a free day so my guest Melinda Snider and I walked to the Gateway Arch and spent several hours at the new museum underneath the Arch. Wednesday was the Retiree Luncheon and my son, John Carnes, joined us for that. Afterwards the Annual Meeting of the Credit Union was held.
Wednesday evening, the Illinois Chapter hosted an Italian Dinner “On the Hill” at Zia’s and Thursday night the Grand Banquet with Dennis and Shelly Scherer, Trevor and Cyndi Axford, and MacKenzie and John Carnes attending with us. Entertainment followed with the Motown Revue.
On Friday afternoon we returned back home. Many thanks to Jim Maher Chairman and his team of MO Postmasters for a wonderful convention.
Congratulations to Makayla Friedel, daughter of Neal and Charlene Friedel of Golden Eagle. After attending Blackburn College earlier to study Biology/Pre-Vet, the past week she started her first day at the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, College of Veterinary Medicine. Attending her Blue Coat Ceremony, on Aug. 21, were her parents; sisters, Isabella, MacKenzie and Peyton; brother, Ty; grandparents, Bob and Carol Weishaar; and friend, David Ward. Best of luck in the years ahead, Makayla!
Barb Ward of Decatur spent the weekend with her mother, Marie Held. On Sunday they were joined by Jim and Sharon Held of Alton and Bob and Bonnie Held for a wonderful visit. Jim and Sharon brought cinnamon rolls for a mid-morning coffee break and pizza to enjoy later in the day, along with a cake Barb had made. I know Marie certainly enjoyed the day with everyone.
Kent and Tammy Schulze and their daughter and family, Jodi and Eddie Plummer, Aiden and Kinsley spent Sunday at Grant’s Farm in St Louis. They all enjoyed a fun-filled family day together.
Dinner guests of Bill and Joan Held on Saturday evening were Francis Toppmeyer, Jeanette Held, John, Julie and Caleb Carnes; Todd and Jane Mandernack; Wyatt and Willie and Renee Rose and family. They all enjoyed the delicious meal and visit together.
Judy Klemme, accompanied by Yvonne Baecht, drove to Springfield recently and attended the Illinois State Fair. They remained overnight and on Saturday Judy, who had been selected earlier, judged the many 4-H projects on display. They returned home that evening.
Cooper Joseph Nolte, son of Greg and Ashley Nolte of Golden Eagle, was baptized on Sunday morning by Fr. Roberts at St. Mary’s Church. Sponsors were Kevin Nolte and Sarah Brewer. Afterwards the family enjoyed a Buffet Luncheon at St. Mary’s Hall. Also in attendance were great-grandma, Marietta Nolte; grandparents, Cliff and Yvonne Nolte; and Peggy Brewer, Kevin and Mandy Nolte; Kolbe and Clara; Steven and Sarah Nolte; Eli and Issie; Brandon and Ashley Nolte; Adam and AJ; Henry Brewer; Claire Brewer; Sarah Brewer; great-aunt, Patty Meyers; friend, Nikki Hubbs; great-uncle and aunt, Rod and Margaret Nolte. Prayer for Labor Day
Almighty God, from the beginning, You set a pattern of work and rest for us to follow. Thank You for providing me with meaningful work as well as set times of rest. Rejuvenate my spirit so I might approach my work refreshed and ready to serve You. For those who are unemployed, I pray that You would prove Yourself faithful in providing for all their needs. In Jesus’ name, Amen
