Congratulations to the new Calhoun Royalty Miss Calhoun Lucy Kallal, daughter of Eric and Lisa Kallal of Hardin; Jr. Miss Calhoun Caroline Adams daughter of Nick and Tara Adams of Michael and Little Miss Calhoun; Karson Hillen daughter of Tony and Hattie Hillen of Michael.
I’m sure they will represent Calhoun well and have the year of a lifetime.
Like most of Calhoun, I spent my weekend at the Calhoun County Fair. It kicked off Thursday evening with the Flag raising and National Anthem sung by the Calhoun Entertainment Company.
They then unveiled the “Mark Brangenberg Memorial.” The tractor pull arena has now been renamed the “Mark Brangenberg Tractor Pull Arena.”
Mark grew up at the fairgrounds helping his dad from the time he was little. He then became a 32 year member of the fair board and his presence will always be missed in our community especially at fair time.
The parade on Sunday, headed up by Cliff and Yvonne Nolte was fabulous. Jerry and Betty Sievers were the Grand Marshalls and I can’t think of a more deserving couple. They are two of the most giving people that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.
The weather couldn’t have been any better all weekend long and there was definitely something at the county fair for everyone. Rides, pageants, pulls, demo derby, parade, friends, fun and my favorite, the fair food. Thank you to all of the fairboard members who work so hard to keep this going every year and to all of the individuals and businesses who donate to make it possible. The Calhoun County Fair is a time honored tradition that we hope will continue for many years to come.
It was a “Great week to be a Warrior” – last Thursday the Jr. High boys won their ballgame, the Warrior Volleyball Girls defeated West Central and Calhoun Warrior Football also defeated West Central. On Saturday, JFL won their game and the Jr. High Softball girls won their game to advance in the regionals.
The gorgeous Quilt donated by Pat Gotway is currently on display at the Pavilion and tickets can be purchased there. I will also have tickets and have it on display at Old Settlers Days Oct. 8 and 9. We will draw for the quilt at the Halloween Party on Oct. 23.
We are making plans for our Trunk or Treat/Halloween party here in Kampsville October 23. This year we will be sponsored by Modern Woodmen Who will be doing matching funds on our basket raffles and on 50-50 we will begin selling 50-50 tickets in advance shortly. The money raised from this helps buy the presents for all the kids at the Christmas party. We appreciate everyone’s support.
The students at St. Norbert’s younger grades enjoyed learning about their community. This past week they visited businesses, Hardin Drive-In, the Illinois Riverdock, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Calhoun County Court. They toured the court room and the State’s Attorney Office. They even got to see Judge Burch in his black robe. I was told they asked a lot of questions. It definitely made an impression on all of them.
St. Norbert’s Duck Race Oct. 2 get those ducks bought.
Congratulations Chance and Lindsey Jackson on the arrival of their son on Sept. 10 Landon Reid Jackson weighing 7lbs and 8 oz.
Congratulations Kevin and Brianna Behrens who were married Friday afternoon in Grafton they had a beautiful reception Friday evening at Straight Home.
