A beautiful sunny weekend, high of 88 degrees on both days and lots of weddings on Saturday. Perfect day for one too.
Congratulations to Andrew Hoemmen and Tess Eberlin who were wed on Saturday at St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey. A reception and dance followed at the American Legion Hall in Brussels. Andrew is the son of Jason and Mary Hoemmen of Brussels and Tess the daughter of Terry and Shelly Eberlin of Godfrey.
Congratulations to Jacob Maag and Bailey Shoffner who were wed on Saturday at St. John’s Church in Carrollton. A reception and dance followed at the Walnut Hall Estates, a beautiful new wedding venue in Carrollton. Jacob is the son of Scott and Paula Maag of Golden Eagle and Bailey the daughter of Alan and Theresa Shoffner of Batchtown.
Congratulations to Chad Mandernach and Morgan Leible who were wed on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s of the Barrens Church in Perryville, Mo. A cocktail hour followed the wedding and at 5 p.m. the reception and later a dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Perryville. Chad is the son of Todd and Jane Mandernach of Marthasville, MO. Attending from Calhoun were Francis Toppmeyer, Mark and Mary Toppmeyer, Maggie and Max and Bill and Joan Held.
Jenny (Eberlin) Nagel of Valparaiso, Ind. spent the weekend with her parents Kevin and Elaine Eberlin. On Friday night she and her sisters Ann Eberlin-Patton and Nikki Eberlin-Fraschini attended the Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds Ball game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. It was a great game with the Cardinals winning and they even got to see Albert Pujols hit home run #698. On Saturday she attended the Eberlin-Hoemmen wedding and on Sunday returned home. Jenny’s husband Don Nagel remained home to attend his daughter Addie’s volleyball tournament.
On Saturday Shirley (Nolte) Kennedy of Hillsboro, Mo. and Nancy Manly and friend Pat of Independence, Mo. enjoyed lunch at the Fill-Inn in Batchtown. Joining them were Yvonne Baecht and Bob and Anita Nolte. Sounds like they had a great meal and a wonderful afternoon of visiting.
The Caselton gals enjoyed a wonderful week at a Condo in Gulf Shores, Ala. recently. Enjoying their time on the beach and evenings together were Carole Seiferman, Melinda Wieneke, Melissa Tepen, Sheila Martin, Chastity Martin and son Kaleb, Erin Caselton, Sarah Douglas, Ann Kloempken, and Stacy Caselton-Stone.
Vera Droege of Meppen returned home last Monday after spending six weeks in Indianapolis, IN caring for her granddaughter Davonte while her mom Desiree Reyes was working and later gone for a week with friends. Vera’s son Bobby Reyes of Peru, Ind. and Diego Reyes of Bonita Springs, FL also flew in and visited with them for a week. Sounds like she had a great time with family but is now glad to be back home again.
Julie Eberlin of Brussels is teaching Chair Yoga at the Calhoun Senior Center in Hardin every Tuesday. Her first class was this Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8:30 a.m. She invites you to come in and give it a try. The class is for anyone and everyone. If you have any questions give her a call – 618-946-2282.
Many enjoyed seeing the GoodYear Blimp going through South Calhoun on Monday around noon. I had a phone call from Carol Stepanek to look out the window to see it crossing over. Later I saw photos on FaceBook that different people had taken. Haven’t seen one of them for a while.
Birthday Blessings this week to my son-in-law Trevor Axford, also Dan Hagen, Wes Held, Bob Held, Joe Snyders, Melissa Zipprich, Paula (Murphy) Schleeper, Jeanne Johnes, Bobby Stepanek, Amber Thompson, Haley Kress, Mollie Pohlman, Don Funk, Bill Schulte, Pat Reichman and all others celebrating their natal day at this time.
Happy Anniversary to Jeff and Debbie Kamp, Roger and Patti Rose, Ralph and Hope Fuller, Don and JoAnn Bieker (30 yrs) Dan and Megan Jenkins, Jeff and Kathy Carey, Steve and Susan Rose (35 yrs) Chuck and Anna Kamp, Dan and Vivian Klaas, Terry and Phyllis Vaughn (57 yrs) and all other couples celebrating their wedding anniversary this week.

A PRAYER FOR HOLY CROSS DAY
O Lord God, strengthen us to raise high the cross where Jesus died for us. May we not shrink from the horrors of the pain and suffering Your Son endured for our sins. Deliver us from Satan, who seeks to diminish what Christ has done for us. Filled with the hope of our own salvation, help us share the Good News of His resurrection with others. In Jesus name, Amen
