It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Batchtown. The Christmas lights adorn the city streets, the park, and businesses. Tony and Jana Sievers have their home between Turner Hollow and Franklin Holler Road beautifully decorated. It’s the time to drive around and take it all in.
The Batchtown Woman’s Club met Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Batchtown Fill Inn Station with their fruits, cookies, and treats to put together the fruit baskets they gave out to the folks in Batchtown who have been ill, or have lost a loved one. They followed up with a traditional breakfast together. Members present were: Jean Tepen, Robin Hillen, Marilyn Klockenkemper, Karen Friedel, Barb Sperlo, Marcy Klockenkemper, and Barb Margherio. Then it was off to deliver them and enjoy seeing and talking with them at their home.
The St. Barbara Altar Society met at the Fill Inn Station for a delicious Christmas meal on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. The menu was roast beef, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, slaw, and pie, followed by games of bingo. It gave us a chance to win a gift, or two. Everyone enjoyed the food, games, and, most importantly, our chance to be together.
This coming Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. is the Christmas Concert presented by the Calhoun Entertainment Company at the Presbyterian Church in Hardin. The Program has many traditional songs, and new songs for you to enjoy. It will be followed by tasty refreshments and visiting with the crowd. We hope to see you at the Christmas Concert. The spirit of Christmas through song.
Holiday guests of Tony and Jana Sievers are Jana’s sister, Jill Duve; and daughter, Christa Resweber, and her daughter, Alice June. They are from Prairieville, La., and are visiting from Thursday through Wednesday of this week. We hope to visit with them, especially little Alice June who is 3 years old. We hope they enjoy their stay and have a wonderful time.
Lindy, Martha, and Katie Bick travelled to Ceder Rapids, Ind. to see the play, Mary Poppins Jr. that grandson, Ian Schatzle, was in with students from the fourth to the sixth grade. His parents, Ben and Amy; and daughter, Alice, joined them. After the play and a short visit, it was home again to Batchtown.
The National Honor Society was held last Wednesday and William Rose was again inducted as a member. Parents, Brad and Anna and family; and grandmother, Marilyn Klockenkemper, attended the event. Congratulations William.
Thanksgiving was at Brad and Anna Rose’s home this year. Bradley, William, Emma, and Nicholas were there along with their grandmother, Marilyn Klockenkemper. Greg and Rosemary Barczewski, Jackie and Henry, and other relatives all joined them for the holiday.
Mary Ann Bailey and Robin Hillen attended the band concert at the elementary school on Sunday, Dec. 4, where they were entertained by the children with the musical numbers they had prepared. The elementary, junior high, and high school students participated.
Brad and Anna Rose also attended the band concert on Sunday. William, Emma, and Nicholas played with their classmates in the Christmas Concert. Greg and Rosemary Barczewski attended the concert to watch Henry and his classmates in the concert. Also attending was grandmother, Marilyn Klockenkemper.
We all remember what a great experience it is to be in the band, or to hear it in concert, or ball game. It’s a skill that we want to be available in the future.

Christmas Night
After coaxed him from toys at night
And tucked him into bed and dimmed his bedroom light,
I heard his sleepy prayer against my cheek:
“Dear God, make Christmas come again next week.”
I wondered if I ought to tell him then
Some laws of nature and some rules of men,
And yet how often older people pray
Deep in their hearts for Christmas every day.
