G-P names 23-24 cheerleaders
Dorothy Akin celebrated her 96th birthday May 4 with loved ones stopping by to visit. She also celebrated at the Boatel for supper with a niece and nephew who share May birthdays. Ninety-six years young! Happy birthday, Dorothy!
Dewayne and Nadine Kessinger recently celebrated 49 years of marriage! Cheers to many more! Dewayne also celebrated another year around the sun this weekend. Happy Birthday, Dewayne!
Roger Dunham has made it home after a few weeks in the hospital. Hopefully he can sit on the patio with a glass of iced tea and listen to the corn grow! Welcome home, Dad!
Alexis Kessinger graduated May 13 from Bradley University in Peoria, with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Friday, a dinner was held in Peoria to honor the graduates. Attending the dinner with Lexi were her parents, Steve and Jeannie Kessinger, and Grandparents, Dewayne and Nadine Kessinger. On Saturday, they attended the graduation ceremony along with Cory, Kyra, Ellie and Emmet Koltveit. Also attending were Cindy Wilkerson, Mark Coultas and Ed Browning.
May 13, Anita Stauffer celebrated Mother’s Day and Raegan Stauffer celebrated her graduation from ISU on Friday. A large gathering of friends and family came to Ryan and Genny’s house for a feast of fish, pulled pork and lots of sides. A good time was had by all!

The Golden Eagle Honor Guard is a new activity for GP’s upcoming fifth through eighth grade students. The Guard will present the flag for the National Anthem and many other performances, as well as support their GP Middle School teams and cheerleaders. Members will learn flag etiquette, how to spin flag, rifle, and saber skills, marching and maneuvering. The Golden Eagle Honor Guard will be led by Mr. Galen Conkright. What a great addition to our middle school!
Boy Scout Troop 17 will be serving pork chop sandwiches Saturday and Sunday at the American Legion in Griggsville during Spring Pickin’s Days. Grab lunch and head inside the Legion for the ten-family rummage sale that will be set up!
May is a busy month for graduations and celebrations. Here are a few dates to keep in mind in the coming weeks: May 21, High School Baccalaureate at 2 p.m at the Griggsville Christian Church, May 25, eighth grade graduation at 7 p.m. at the middle school in Perry, May 26, high school graduation at 7 p.m. at the high school in Griggsville.
