A beautiful Monday morning with temperature at 65 degrees. A very brief shower on Sunday morning but St. Joseph Picnic in Meppen went on as planned and many people were in attendance. The forecast sounds great this week with temperatures to be in the mid to upper 80’s all week.
Congratulations to Tom and Pennie Pohlman of Brussels who just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They returned over the weekend from a week long family vacation to Tybee Island, GA to celebrate the occasion. Present besides the honoree’s were their three children, Shawn and Kenneathia Hagen, Danielle and Patrick Hurley and Heather and “D.J.” Neese and their families. Lots of swimming and fun times at the beach along with chartering a fishing boat one day, sightseeing in Savannah, visiting the Tybee Island Lighthouse, Marine Science Museum and other places of interest. Many more happy and healthy anniversaries to Tom and Pennie.
The Brussels High School Class of 1964 held their 59th Class Reunion on Friday evening, August 4, at the Brussels American Legion Hall. Gary Fortschneider and the guy’s grilled chicken kabobs and others attending brought side dishes. In attendance were Frank Baecht, Phillip Droege, Tony Moennig, Judy (McKenney) Peer, Tom and Jean Nolte, Ronnie and Toni Pohlman, Darlene (Kronable) Seiferman accompanied by her daughter Christi LaMarsh and her granddaughter Alyssa LaMarsh, Paulette (Hoemmen) and Norman Sievers, Paul Wagner, Robert Wagner, Jim and Kay Wehmeier and Judy (Held) and Jerry Zahrli. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal and the evening was spent reminiscing of days gone by, taking lots of photos and making new memories. Those unable to attend were Diane (Held) Baalman, Larry and Anne Eberlin of FL, Paulette (Siemer) Pohlman and Virginia (Pinky) Wagner. They lovingly remembered their classmates who have passed away, John Bussen, Helen (Bonner) Moennig and Sandy (Moses) Kiel.
Jim and Sally (Jacobs) Hawthorne of Denison, TX and their three grandchildren of O’Fallon, MO spent the weekend in Golden Eagle visiting family and enjoying time on the Jacob homeplace. On Sunday morning they attended services at St. Matthew’s and I was able to have a nice visit with them.
My Saturday visitor and farm worker was my son John of Edwardsville. Had the usual mowing, trim work, garden work, you name it that he accomplished until almost dark. Julie Carnes and Caleb spent the day with her dad Francis Toppmeyer. Many thanks to him for his hard work.
Chelsie Kiel, Charlie, Stevie and Toby, along with Brooke Eberlin and daughter Penelope spent last Friday at Grant’s Farm in St. Louis. The kids especially enjoyed feeding the goats and cows, watching the bird show, seeing the Clydesdale horses, the tram ride through the wildlife preserve and all other areas of the farm.
Birthday Blessings this week to my daughter-in-law Julie Carnes, also Cindy Kuhn, Loren Haug, Irene (Nolte) Egner, Greg Snider, Paulette Pohlman, Paula Herter, Ronnie Weigel, Elaine Eberlin, Larry Hattemar, twins Jacob and Jerrica LaMarsh and all others celebrating their natal day at this time.
Don’t forget this coming weekend is St. Mary’s Picnic in Brussels. Beginning at 5 p.m. with lots of great food, bingo and other games and music for your listening and dancing pleasure.
