Normally I would start my column this week all about the summer celebration but I made a major mistake last week and first I have to fix it. My apologies to the family of Margaret McKinnon I accidentally put Margaret Ringhausen instead, when offering sympathy. I’m actually just going to redo how I say it because I very much was thinking of Margaret McKinnon when I posted. So here is my edit.
Sympathy to the family of Margaret McKinnon on her passing. What I remember most about Margaret is her amazing smile because I don’t think she was ever seen without one. Please keep Dave and her family in your prayers.
We had an amazing Saturday in Kampsville. The Annual Summer Celebration kicked off Friday night with our third annual BBQ Cook-off, teams gathered Friday night to begin cooking. Thank you Jamie and Melody Seimer for overseeing this.
The parade was a great success with 58 entries. Lindsey Taul parade chairperson and her committee Reagan Clendenny, Connor Bilbruck, Olivia, Emily, and Ava Clowers. Spent the morning marking off the Marvin Richter Ball Diamond and making sure everything ran smoothly. Our committee chose parade Grand Marshall Nina Wilson. Nina is very active in our community, always giving so much of her time and she takes great pride in our village. Thank you to Fred for driving her. Glenda Sidwell for donating the beautiful corsage and Rob and Kim Parmenter for making the gorgeous plaque that we presented to her. When Debby, Lindsey and myself presented her with the plaque she said, “no one loves Kampsville as much as I do” that sentence right there that’s exactly why she was the perfect choice.
Following the parade Kampsville American Legion Post 1083 did the flag raising while the Calhoun Entertainment Company sang the national anthem.
Mayor Amanda and village clerk Arlene along with their kids got the kids game area ready and running smoothly. Village trustee Dennis Johnson and wife Robin headed up our bouncy house, thank you to all of the people and kids of our village who helped to man this during the day. Thank you committee member Jeanette Johnson for taking care of getting the houses for us.
The basket raffles are always everyone’s favorite. Thank you Marcia Agney and Brenda Johnson for taking care of this. My sisters Tammy Jones and Linda Hazelwonder sold quilt chances for us. We drew Saturday evening for the beautiful patriotic quilt donated by Pat Gotway. The winner of that quilt was Chloe Angelo. The quilt made by Diana Young will be drawn for on the Sunday of Old Settlers. It will be on display at the Bank at Kampsville beginning Wednesday.
Thank you Nina Wilson for being in charge of the fish stand. The guys fried up over 100 pounds of fish. Huge thank you to all of my fish tank crew. They never let me down. They marched in the parade, they do the flag raising and then they cook fish all day.
It takes a lot of heavy lifting sometimes and we are so appreciative this week that we had Mark Becker to move our bleachers for us. Cayden Hayn, Channing Johnson, Clayton Titus to haul tables, chairs, soda and anything we asked. Thank you Ed Johnson and Dusty Scoggins for hauling the trash. Also, thank you Ed, Saturday morning for going down and taking care of the situation at the shower house. A huge thank you to Jeff Sidwell for moving the fish fryer and breading table, freezer, and refrigerator.
Thank you to the Pavilion for donating all of the stuff for the fish stand and North Calhoun Fire Department for letting us borrow a fryer.
The CHS Cheerleaders brought back the traditional dunking booth this year. In addition to the girls taking turns getting dunked, Coach Dylan Ringhausen and Coach Ben Bayless also took a turn letting the crowd dunk them.
Now onto the stage. Terry McBride from The Landing provided our sound system for us. We began with our Pageants. Thank you to my stage crew Reagan Clendenny, Ava, Emily and Olivia Clowers. Zara Miller was crowned Baby Kampsville, Bennett Brown was Toddler Kampsville, Little Mr. Jay Peters and Little Miss Ashlyne Herter. I’m sure all four will do a great job representing Kampsville this year.
Thank you to all who donated trophies for the stage games. Kids of all ages enjoyed stacking cookies, eating cookies, watermelon eating, bubblegum blowing and hula hooping. Thank you Brooklyn Peters for assisting with the contests. In the evening we played a crowd favorite, the couples game. It’s kind of funny when you find out what couples do know about each other and what they don’t. We had a tie this year. A young dating couple Gaige Thornton and Lucy Kallal and a married couple Nick and Tara Adams.
We then played a how well do you know your child/parent this was won by Lindsey Taul and Reagan. Thank you to all who donated toward the trophies for the games. Those trophies sure put a lot of smiles on faces.
We finished out our night with spectacular fireworks headed up by committee member Paul Klunk and the North Calhoun Fire Department.
I am sure, even though I’ve said a lot I’ve probably left out a lot. I would just like to finish by saying on behalf of my co-chair Debby Klunk and myself we were hot, we were exhausted and we can’t wait to do it all over again next year.
Kortney Herkert left for college this past week, she will be attending Lindenwood University. Dad Jeff and Aunts Amanda and Jennifer assisted her with the move. Samantha Kaufman also began college this past week at Missouri State University.
Congratulations to Scott Quiller on his retirement from First Baptist Church where he has been the custodian for nearly 20 years.
Happy 25th birthday Jordan Barnett on August 17.
Please add Megan Jenkins to your prayers and continue prayers for Bev Mosbarger, Sue Aderton, Connor Gilman, Joyce Blumenberg, Joe Gress, Raymond Sievers, Isabel McGlaughin, Kurt Roth, Jerry Crader, Kathryn Chapman, Bob Banghart, Cassie Blackwell, Margie Smith and Linda Herkert.
