2024 will be a leap year, an election year and a time to make solid resolutions
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and were able to enjoy the true meaning of the season!
As we wrap up the year 2023, I wanted to share a few tidbits I found about the new year we are about to enter.
The year 2024 (MMXXIV) will be a leap year starting on a Monday in the Gregorian calendar, the 2024th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 24th year of the third millennium and the 21st century, and the fifth year of the 2020s. With over 40 national elections being held throughout the year, 2024 is expected to be an unusually busy election year with seven of the top 10 most populous countries holding elections throughout this year. Artificial intelligence is expected to influence and sway voters ahead of elections, increasing risks of political disinformation and democratic backsliding across the world. (Wikipedia.org)
One hundred years ago, in 1924, unemployment was at 5%. A new car cost $265. A gallon of gas was 11cents. A first-class stamp was 2 cents. Life expectancy was 54.1 years. (alookthrutime.com) Times have certainly changed, haven’t they?
Pre-K Screening at Griggsville-Perry School District #4 will be held Jan. 17 from 9 a.m until.noon. Four Rivers Special Education District and Griggsville-Perry School District are sponsoring developmental screenings for all children between the ages of 2 years, 8 months and 5 (not entering kindergarten in the fall). This screening helps to determine eligibility for the pre-kindergarten program. Parents should call the school at 833-2352 to schedule an appointment. There will be another screening date at GP in the spring for students interested in enrolling in Pre-K for the 2024-2025 school year.
The next time you read my writing, it will be the year 2024. Time sure does move quickly the older you get. I realize that with each year that goes by. I want to leave you with a New Year’s quote by Peggy Toney Horton, that I thought would be appropriate: “Each new year, we have before us a brand new book containing 365 blank pages. Let us fill them with all the forgotten things from last year – the words we forgot to say, the love we forgot to show, and the charity we forgot to offer.”
May 2024 be a blessed year for all of you. Happy New Year!
