What a beautiful weekend, Saturday, 66 and 78 on Sunday. Lots of traffic out and about enjoying the weather too.
Chad Brodbeck, Industrial Arts Teacher at Brussels High School took five of his finest students to the Drafting Competition at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey on Friday, March 1. The class is called the Illinois Computer Aid Design and Drafting. Thirty four students from three area schools competed in six categories. Mr. Brodbeck’s students did a wonderful job. In the “Intro to Board Drawing” Logan Tepen placed 1st and Joe Struse placed 2nd. In the “3D Auto CAD Inventor Modeling Competition” Abby Johnes placed 1st and Isaiah Katzenberger placed 2nd. In the “2D Auto CAD Introduction to CAD”, Gracie Klaas placed 1st, earning a perfect score on her drawing. Congratulations to both Mr. Brodbeck and his five students!
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, Butch and Betty Fortschneider and Ben and Barb Hanneken of the Deer Plain area, along with Nick and Margaret Ann Voke and Kenny Eschbach of Jerseyville and Rodney and Lee Roentz of the Grafton area met at the Dew Drop Inn and enjoyed the pork chop buffet. Afterwards they enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of visiting.
I have tried the past two months to have my annual January family dinner and afternoon together. Due to work schedules, weather, ferry out, etc we finally found a date all but three were able to attend. Present for the afternoon were Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City, Ashley Kirn, Noah and Addy of Wentzville, and friend Ben Ketcherside and Joanie of Warrenton, Brittney Kirn, Daniel Holdinghausen and Samuel of Festus, Trevor and Cyndi Axford and David and Madison Morrow, all of Chesterfield, John and Caleb Carnes of Edwardsville and Melinda Snider of Brussels. After dinner we played a rousing game of Rob Your Neighbor, followed by a visit to the dessert table. The day was also to celebrate Brittney’s Kirn’s recent college graduation from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Industry. Shelly and Dennis had brought a large decorated cookie cake, I had a key lime pie and Melinda had brought three various cookie bars, of which we had to sample all and found them all delicious. Thanks to everyone that brought a side dish or beverage. It was a most enjoyable day.
On Saturday afternoon and evening Jan and Derrick Bick, Cole and Kaela hosted a family birthday party at their home in O’Fallon, MO. The dinner celebration was to honor Jan’s mom, Barb Hagen on her 80th Birthday. Also present were her other two daughters and their spouses, Elaine and Lee Mans, of Golden Eagle and Judy and Kenny Devening of St. Peters and her son and spouse Dave and Kara Hagen and all their families and her husband Roy. Everyone enjoyed the meal and a great time together. Many more happy and healthy ones Barb!
Last weekend Barb Ward of Decatur spent the weekend with her mother, Marie Held. They had a most enjoyable visit and Barb cleaned her house and other jobs for her while here.
My apologies to Sarah (Wreath) Zumberi of Chicago whose name was inadvertently omitted as being in the Brussels High School Class of 2004, and absent from their recent 20 year reunion.
Visitors of Roy and Barb Hagen throughout the afternoon and evening on Sunday were Dan Hagen and Shirley Cloninger of Hardin, Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City and Tony Moennig of Meppen and friend Judy Peer.
Hard to believe we are in March already and this means the Calhoun Entertainment Co. will soon be having their live production of Fiddler on the Roof. Under the direction of Jerry Sievers the performances begin Thursday evening March 14 at 7 p.m. and runs through March 17 ending with a Sunday 2 p.m. matinee. Tickets are on sale at Northside Family Foods, Hardin Package Liquor and all county locations of the Bank of Kampsville and the Bank of Calhoun.
Don’t forget this Friday March 8, beginning at 4 p.m. until sold out, the Brussels American Legion will be serving fish sandwiches.
The Brussels Woman’s Club has begun receiving a few recipes for their Bicentennial Cookbook. Recipe forms are available at many area businesses. Please send as many recipes as you care to. If you do not have a form you can still email them to Elaine Eberlin at: [email protected] or mail them to Judy Burch, P. O. Box 1, Brussels, IL 62013 or as I mentioned earlier just give them to one of the club members, Mary Kirn, Jean Barton, Susan Haug-Kinder, Lynda Wrigley or Carol Sue Carnes.
