Enjoyed a beautiful Easter weekend, Church services, Easter egg hunts, etc went great and everyone traveling had no problem. Thank you, Lord!
Last Wednesday Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City. MO, along with Cyndi Axford of Chesterfield picked me up early that morning and we attended the funeral of my sister-in-law and their aunt, Anita Kamp in Jerseyville. My son John of Edwardsville met us at the funeral home for the visitation and funeral mass afterwards. Then on to Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg, IL for burial and a luncheon followed at Big John Kronable’s place of business in Hardin. Deepest sympathy once again to her husband John Wm “Bill” Kamp, children Tammy (Gary) Kronable, Laura (Tracy) Sparks. Bill Kamp, Jr and Charles (Anna) Kamp and their families. Anita was also sister-in-law to Greg and Agnes Kamp and Margie Carnes who also attended the visitation, funeral, burial and luncheon.
Easter dinner guests of Yvonne Baecht were Keith and Becky Baecht, Matthew and Samuel of Jerseyville, Matt and Lynette Eberhardt of Chenoa, IL and Sue Kinchloe of Meppen. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal and afternoon of visiting and the boys doing outdoor jobs for their mom and grandma.
Dave and Kara Hagen, Emma, Ryan and Alyssa of Meppen hosted Easter on Saturday afternoon, March 30, at their home in Meppen. Parents Roy and Barb Hagen and all their children and families were in attendance for a wonderful afternoon dinner and Easter egg hunt for the younger ones.
On my birthday on Saturday. March 30, my guest was my daughter Cyndi Axford of Chesterfield. She came bearing lots of wonderful gifts and my favorite white cake with coconut icing. For lunch she took me to The Fill-In Restaurant in Batchtown and then back to my house for cake and ice cream. While here she also did some vacuuming and dusting, which I certainly appreciated. Thanks so much all around Cyndi.
On Sunday morning my son, John Carnes, of Edwardsville surprised me by attending Easter service at St. Matthew’s with me. Then to my house afterwards where I received more beautiful gifts from the Carnes family. When I left at 1 PM to my oldest daughter & sons-in-law house, Shelly and Dennis Scherer, John remained and did the mowing and trim work, etc. before he left early evening for the Toppmeyer Easter evening meal hosted by Ed and Lisa Heffington and family in Godfrey. Many thanks John for attending church with me, for all the work you accomplished on the farm and to the Carnes family (John, Julie, Hannah and Caleb) for the lovely birthday gifts. As well as Ashley Kirn, Noah and Adelaide and Brittney, Daniel and Sam Holdinghausen. Also attending the dinner at Heffington’s was Francis Toppmeyer, Mark and Mary Toppmeyer, Maggie and Max, and Bill and Joan Held, all of Golden Eagle.
Larry and Marcia Hattemar of Brussels entertained family members on Easter Sunday. Present were Ed and Laurie Lehr of Alton, Alan and Kathy Friedel of Golden Eagle and Tyler and Adrienne Friedel of Maryville area. Lots of great food and a wonderful afternoon of visiting.
I drove to Wright City, MO early afternoon on Easter Sunday to the home of Dennis and Shelly Scherer. There I joined Ashley Kirn, Noah and Addy of Wentzville, Daniel and Brittney and Samuel of Festus, MO and Lloyd and Lauren White, Emma and Austin of Foley and myself. We all enjoyed a delicious ham dinner with all the trimmings and for dessert Birthday cake and cheesecake with cherry topping. On such a beautiful day we enjoyed sitting outdoors afterwards while several egg hunts were enjoyed by the kiddos. I stayed overnight and drove home on Monday. Many thanks to “ALL” my family for the lunches, Easter dinner and all the wonderful gifts. You sure know how to make a mom, Nana and Gigi feel celebrated on her natal day.
Loren and Julie Kulp and Lincoln spent the Easter weekend in Kansas City, MO at the Great Wolf Lodge. It appears they enjoyed the water slides, swimming, mini golf, arcade, etc. They attended Easter Mass on Sunday morning followed by a wonderful dinner. Lincoln became a master magi as he mastered all the quests around the resort while there. Needless to say, they had a wonderful weekend away.

South Calhoun enjoyed a wonderful shower of rain last Monday night, anywhere from 2 to 3 inches. Now if it warms up it will certainly be mushroom hunting time.
Bob and Bonnie Held of Brussels entertained family on Easter with a wonderful dinner and afternoon together. Bob’s mother Marie Held and sister, Sharon McLeod of Montana enjoyed joining the Held family for the occasion.
Twins, Stevie and Charlie Kiel celebrated their 6th Birthday on Saturday. The event for family and friends was hosted by their parents Joey and Chelsie Kiel of Brussels and their brother Toby. The highlight of the party was a Bounce House which all the children enjoyed.
My son, John Carnes, of Edwardsville drove me to Springfield, IL on Friday afternoon where we attended the Illinois UPMA Postmasters Convention at the Double Tree Hilton. Great speakers, so much delicious food, entertainment and hospitality for the 80 plus in attendance. On Saturday while I was tending the Signature Credit Union booth John enjoyed touring the State Capitol, Lincoln Museum, Governor’s Mansion and other places of interest. Each night after dinner we enjoyed great music for your listening and dancing pleasure. Friday night an all postal employee band and singers, with the keyboard player, who works at Postal Headquarters, flying in from Virginia to join the local Postmasters and Rural Carriers to provide wonderful music. On Saturday night after the Banquet we were entertained by a “D. J.” for another night of great music. The National Convention in late August will be held in Orlando, FL so the theme for the banquet was Disney World. After breakfast on Sunday at the famous Charlie Parker’s Diner we returned home. This Diner was featured on Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Food Network. He had visited this place earlier and gave it a great review so just had to try it. All in all it was a great weekend.
Melinda Snider of Brussels and her brother Scott Snider of Hardin attended their great nephew, Lucas’ 4th Birthday celebration on Saturday in Jerseyville. Lots of great food and birthday cake enjoyed by everyone. Lucas is the son of Amy Meyer.
