The big news it’s “Pavilion Season “ in Kampsville they are open for the 2024 season and that officially means Winter is over.
Other big news in Kampsville, this past Wednesday I met with Lindsay Steinacher from Calhoun Smart Start and with the help of Chuck Titus we were able to set up a little “giving” library. This isn’t the lending library as you don’t leave a book. The Calhoun Smart Start 0-3 program will provide the books. Thank you to the Center for American Archeology for providing a spot for the little library. The little library is located at the main office for the Center for American Archeology. Introducing reading to your kids at an early age is the best way to encourage their love for it.
The Calhoun Health Department hosted Earth Day Friday at McCully Heritage Project. When my oldest daughter’s were little I took them to the very first McCully’s Earth Day Event in 1991. There were only a handful of people there and they gave each kid a sapling, a bag from Smokey Bear and a trash bag to pick up litter. Sherry Droste gave presentations on nature. On Friday buses full of kids from all the County Schools attended with lots of different activities and information. Thank you Anne Rose and the entire Calhoun Health Department staff for providing an amazing Earth Day Celebration. For me personally McCully Heritage Project will always be one of my very favorite places and witnessing personally the continued growth has been wonderful.
The Center for American Archeology is currently working on its 2024 Workshops on Friday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will present Arrowhead Making with Tim Dillard. Space is limited so sign up now by calling 618-653-4316. Cost is $25. Registration closes one week before the event.
Congratulations to Calhoun High School Senior McKenzie Baalman on winning the Calhoun County Fair T-shirt design contest. This year’s theme is Calhoun County Fair “We have a good thing growing.” The fair will be Sept. 5,6,7 and 8.
