Another Single Seniors is in the works; call to join
Another get together of the Single Seniors is in the works. I like what some have called it…”Meet and Eat”. This is a great way for widows, widowers, and other single people over the age of 55 can get together at a restaurant, enjoy a meal together that each person pays for, and enjoys a time of visiting with others, either people that they already know or new people that they haven’t met before. This is NOT a matchmaking organization and costs nothing to join. If you are alone and would enjoy company to have a delicious meal with, this is the group for you. If you have questions or want to join, just call me at either 1-217-285-4880 or 1-217-320-8438.
At the Findley Place in Pittsfield on Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is a free exercise class that starts at 10:30 and ends at 11 a.m. This class is different from other exercise classes in that most of the exercises are done from a folding chair which is good for all ages to do. These classes are for both male and female. I would encourage everyone to come on out and try these classes.
The Western Illinois Tractor Club will be having a tractor cruise, leaving the Western Illinois Fair Grounds at 8:30 a.m. and stopping for lunch at the Perry FastStop. The group will meander through the country, taking several breaks. All new and old members are welcome. The group has 94 members and are always looking for more. Contact Bruce Zumwalt for more information.

Yellowknife, Canada Trip by Cheri Myers: March 13 (continued) – We drove on the Dettah ice road which is around 4 feet thick. A signed warned that the maximum weight for the ice road that day was 25,000 KG (55,115 pounds). We stopped at the community of Dettah, an aboriginal town. Their sign says, “As long as the sun shines, the river flows and the grass grows”. Dettah is a First Nations community in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. We did a little shopping and had bison ribeye at the Copperhouse. Around 10 p.m. we headed back to the Aurora Village that we had visited during the day. Our teepee had a woodstove, hot chocolate, and snacks. We got some good shots of the northern lights tonight. March 14 – We had delicious whitefish at Bullock’s Bistro which has been serving fish in a 1936 log building in Old Town for over 30 years. Patrons have scribbled graffiti on every square inch of the log walls and ceiling. We walked around Old Town admiring the murals and the ice cream at Sun Dog Trading Company. Tonight we went back to Yellowknife Bay to the Arctic Duchess by Jolliffe Island. It is owned by tour operator and resident of the boat Jake Olson since 2020. The historic boat was built in 1961 and once belonged to the Canadian Coast Guard. There is a photo in the ship of Queen Elizabeth and Philip to commemorate their visit in 1994. We had our own personal, cozy traditional trapper’s tent to relax in with the option of a sauna then polar plunge (no one took them up on that). The low was -1 degree and windy. Around midnight we saw the aurora starting, so we drove out to the ice road where we saw aurora dancing around a beautiful moon. (continued next week)
I believe our Single Seniors group enjoyed our meal and getting together at WATTS UP in Nebo Friday, May 10, for lunch. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. There were 15 of us, and would you believe, out of the 15 only 5 were women!! Appreciated each and every one who came. Already planning our next monthly event. Anyone interested in joining, please call one of the numbers above.
There was a good crowd at the Buggs’ Family Opry Friday evening, May 10. And we all enjoyed another good show. It was good having Polly Bugg back on the show.
Mothers’ Day Dan and Anita Mefford hosted a family meal with the Mefford/Davis/Yackley clan. Everyone brought something to share in the meal, and it was all delicious. Yard games and plenty of visiting were enjoyed. By the way, badminton and croquet are still alive and well. Enjoyed the entire afternoon.
