This past weekend was St. Joseph Church Picnic in Meppen. No rain and temperatures were tolerable and of course a big crowd on both Saturday night and Sunday. Lots of delicious food and cold refreshments for everyone to enjoy. This coming weekend is St. Mary’s Church Picnic in Brussels. Hoping for great weather for them as well. It starts on Saturday evening at 5 p.m., looking forward to seeing old friends there and enjoying more great food.
The Brussels High School Class of 1964 celebrated their 60 year anniversary on Friday, July 28, at the Brussels American Legion Hall. Everyone enjoyed the great food, sharing many past high school memories, photos and lots of laughs. Those attending were Diane (Held) Baalman, Frank Baecht, Philip Droege, Larry and Anne Eberlin, Gary Fortschneider, Tony Moennig, Judy (McKenny) Peer, Tom Nolte, Paulette (Siemer) Pohlman, Ron and Teoni Pohlman, Paulette (Hoemmen) and Norman Sievers, Robert Wagner, Virginia “Pinky” Wagner, Judy (Held) and Jerry Zahrli and Robert Wagner. Unable to attend were Jim (wife Kay) Wehmeier and Darlene (Kronable) Seiferman. Before dinner there were prayers remembering those dear classmates that have passed. Namely, John Bussen, Helen (Bonner) Moennig and Sandy (Moses) Kiel. Those in attendance were thankful that the class members could all be together to celebrate again. Thanks to Gary for all the beautiful decorations and to everyone bringing delicious side dishes to enjoy with the fried chicken from the Old Fill-Inn. Gary had even come up with a game of “Who Did What” in high school, classmates especially had fun with this. With it being Judy Zahrli’s birthday she was surprised with a birthday cake. A great time was had by all and they will be looking forward to next year’s reunion.

Joey and Chelsie Kiel, Charlie, Stevie and Toby, along with her parents and sister and family recently returned from a wonderful vacation in St. Augustine, FL. Lots of time was spent on the beach and wading in the ocean. One day they toured the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park. Another day was spent touring the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and fortress built by the Spanish to defend Florida and the Atlantic trade route. It is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. Sounds like they all had a wonderful time.
Yvonne Baecht, accompanied by Sue Kinchloe, enjoyed dinner on Saturday evening with Keith and Becky Baecht, Matthew and Samuel and other family members. The event was to celebrate Samuel’s upcoming 14th Birthday. Many more “happy ones” Samuel.
During Sunday church service at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels Sydney McCall and her baby boy, Jackson of Golden Eagle, were baptized. Afterwards a wonderful chicken dinner with all the trimmings was held in the church hall in their honor. Members of both Nick’s and Sydney’s family were in attendance. Later the Mcall’s were surprised with a baby shower. We welcome the family to St. Matthew’s and were so happy that members of both their families were able to be present for this wonderful occasion.
