Old Settlers Weekend has come and gone and it was fabulous! So many visitors to our little village and enjoying everything we have to offer. This is one of our favorite weekends and we are thankful to Barb Snyders and her crew for always doing an amazing job heading this up. Calhoun Royalty Colleen Schumann and Kate Adams as well as Kampsville Royalty Leigha Willis, Drake Ohlendorf, and Nora Smith assisted with the National Anthem. Barb and her crew treated them to fresh kettle corn and homemade root beer.
Congratulations to Kathryn Huff she was the winner of the beautiful farm quilt donated by Diana Young.
The North Calhoun Fire Department had amazing fish and funnel cakes and as always they made sure our volunteers at the ambulance were taken care of. They completely sold out by 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all who showed your support at the stand. I don’t know what we would do without these guys. They are amazing.
Pastor and Ati Ankney have been home visiting. They were honored Wednesday night with a potluck at St. John’s Lutheran. They also enjoyed seeing everyone at the St. John’s Lutheran stand at Old Settlers Days.
We are going to stay busy in our village. This coming weekend we have our bake sale Saturday morning at the Bank of Kampsville that benefits the kids Christmas and Halloween parties. Sunday afternoon we will have our Halloween party/Trunk or Treat beginning at 4 p.m. on the Marvin Richter Ball Field. So I need my bakers! We have something for all ages and this is a completely free party other than the raffle baskets and we have some amazing baskets. The baskets, bake sale and donations are how we pay for the wonderful parties. Trick or Treating in the Village of Kampsville 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
The Village of Hamburg will host their Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 5 p.m. They will also have free chili and hotdogs.
Both Kampsville and Hamburg would like to encourage everyone to visit our events. You don’t have to be a resident to enjoy and we have fun for all ages.
Homecoming week has come and gone and what a week it was.
The St. Louis area food bank will be in Kampsville the second Monday of November beginning at 9:30 a.m. by the Kampsville Legion. We would like to encourage people to use this if we don’t show a need for it we will lose it and there are people who absolutely need it so please don’t hesitate to come out.
Calhoun Warriors retained the Oaken Bucket against our neighbors in Pleasant Hill. We crowned new royalty congratulations Jake Kress and Josie Hoagland. Jake is the grandson of Kampsville ‘s Ted and Elda Hayn. The kids enjoyed activities all week and spent the week throughout the county doing some pretty impressive t-peeing. They got my house on Monday night. I’m pretty sure it’s because they like me. Lindsey’s house got it twice and the second time they did such a great job when Bob Smith drove under the tree on his way to the Legion Coffee Shop he took so much with him it looked like his Jeep had been done. Bob thought it was hilarious and we all had a good laugh. I realize not everyone shares my opinion on this and that’s okay. But personally I love that we live in a community where all the high school gets together having good clean fun . No one got hurt, clean up isn’t too bad and they made memories that will last forever. Because high school goes quickly. It also shows there is no toilet paper shortage in Calhoun.
Betty Wendt celebrated her 90th birthday on September 27. Also celebrating a birthday was Ruby Quiller celebrated her 97th birthday over the weekend with lots of family. Happiest of birthdays to both of these wonderful ladies.
Please continue prayers for Billie Jo Eickmeyer, Kurt Roth, Isabel McGlaughin, Keira Sievers, Joyce Blumenberg, Connor Gilman, Kathryn Chapman, Sue Aderton, Diane Rose, Margie Smith and Linda Herkert.
