After the heavy snowfall on January 4, we did have another 2+ inches on Thursday night and into Friday. Daytime temperatures remained below freezing until Sunday, Jan. 12 when it reached 42 degrees. Weather forecast now for Monday through Wednesday in the mid to upper 20’s and then next weekend back in the 40’s for a couple days. Difficult to decide how to dress, especially if you have outdoor work or other activities.
John and Kelley Heffington, Brantley and Graceyn of Golden Eagle and Jon and Melanie Tepen and sons Logan and Colin of Batchtown drove to New Orleans where they spent the night, after checking out Bourbon and Royal streets and enjoying Cajun food. On Saturday, Dec. 27, they boarded the Carnival Liberty Cruise Ship for their 3rd Annual Cruise for a week during the holidays. They report the food was fantastic, country music entertainment after dinner every night. New Years Eve and day were spent on the island of Roatan in the Honduras where they enjoyed more delicious food and entertainment, riding ATV’s, ziplining and snorkeling. They returned to the port of New Orleans on Friday and headed home Saturday, hitting the bad weather and having to stay overnight in Sikeston, MO before finally getting back home the following day.

On Sunday afternoon I drove to St. Charles, MO and met Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City and rode with them to the Old Stone Chapel on south Main Street. There we attended the Surprise Retirement Party for Brian Wegener. Financial Advisor for Thrivent Financial. A wonderful dinner and cocktails were served to over 120 people present for the wonderful occasion. My late husband and I joined Thrivent back in 1958, when it was called Aid Association for Lutherans, having life insurance policies through their company and later when our children were born. Later we had IRA’s, mutual funds or whatever was to our advantage and for the last 30+ years Brian was our advisor. The Old Stone Chapel is a historic event venue, built in the 1800’s, that has been restored to mint condition for weddings, receptions, a ballroom for dances and other events.
