Don’t forget Teacher Appreciation Week
Congratulations to GP’s new Prom 2025 Royalty, Mr. Logan Fencik and Miss Georgie Bartlett! Logan is the son of Lauren and John Nergenah and Josh Gerecke. Georgie is the daughter of Jake and Tasha Barlett.
If you have a school-aged child, be sure to thank his or her teacher this week – it’s Teacher Appreciation Week May 5- May 9! Sending a note, gift card or other small gift to your child’s teacher is a great way to recognize the hard work and dedication they put into their profession. Teachers play a crucial role in shaping the future of students.
Not only do we celebrate teachers in the month of May, but Mother’s Day is this Sunday as well! Mother’s Day originated with Julia Ward Howe’s “Mother’s Day Proclamation” in 1879, calling for mothers to unite for world peace. The first official Mother’s Day, as we know it, was established by Anna Jarvis after her mother’s death, with a service held in 1907, and a national holiday proclaimed in 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson. How are you planning to celebrate the mother or mother figure in your life? I hope you have something special planned!
GPMS Eighth Grade Promotion will be May 22 at 7 p.m. in Perry. GPHS Graduation will be May 23 at 7 p.m. in Nichol Gymnasium. Mark your calendars to help celebrate these Eagle and Tornado graduates!
The Perry High School Alumni Association banquet and meeting will be May 24 at noon in the GPMS gymnasium. Honored classes for this years’ banquet are 1995, 1985, 1975, 1965, 1955, and 1950. Please RSVP to [email protected] or call 217-617-6138.
As we inch closer to summer, you should know that May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month. The most prevalent cancer in the United States is skin cancer and it affects an estimated 3.3 million people. A black ribbon represents awareness for all types of skin cancer. (www.verywellhealth.com) I would encourage each of you to make an appointment with a dermatologist to have a yearly skin check. It’s a quick and painless check and could save your life. Wear your sunscreen and find a good hat to help shade your skin this summer!
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:31
Happy Mother’s Day!
