The past week was another one of high temperatures and humidity. On Friday we finally got a wonderful rain, came down so hard it was a complete white-out. My rain gauge had 1-7/10ths inches in it and other places in Calhoun received as much as 3 inches. It just came down so hard and so quick that fields planted on hillsides and rain coming down off the bluffs caused some roads to flood. We shouldn’t complain it was really needed, especially by the farmers that got their wheat harvested and now are planting soybeans. Thank you, Lord.
Bruce and Melinda Pohlman, their niece Molly Pohlman, their son, wife and daughters Brendan, and Amberly Pohlman, Charlotte and Andi and their daughter Breanna and Austin Pohlman and their children William, Theodore and Scarlett of Godfrey. They all enjoyed a 2-week vacation out West. They began with flying to Denver, CO and then a flight to Utah’s Bryce Canyononly airport in a National Forest, then on to Ashton, Idaho. Next stop was Cave Falls, Wyoming where they had a large cabin rented for the whole family. Over the next couple of days they visited Yellowstone National Park where they saw lots of beautiful scenery. Also, geysers, Mammoth Hot Springs and the Grand Prismatic Spring where elk were grazing, as well as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone along with Old Faithful erupting. They also loved the Grand Tetons National Park with its beautiful mountain views and the local wildlife of bears, moose, coyotes, foxes, elk and pronghorns. The park is in northwestern Wyoming in Jackson Hole. They returned home on Saturday afternoon after having enjoyed so many beautiful places during that time.
On Friday evening the Brussels High School Class of 1962 enjoyed their 63rd Class Reunion at the Wittmond Hotel. Everyone enjoyed the delicious dinner followed by photo taking, visiting and reminiscing afterwards.
Fred and Debbie Kuhn and their grandson Barrett of Festus, MO returned home Saturday after a couple weeks at Orange Beach, Alabama. They enjoyed the beach, swimming in the Gulf of America and the pool, as well as dining out. On their way down they stopped in Tennessee to visit the Shiloh National Military Park and Shiloh Civil War Battlefield.
Many from the area attend the summer concert series at Music in the Park in Grafton each Thursday evening. This free event is held each week for 14 weeks. It began on May 29 and continues through August 28 in Grove Memorial Park. They feature bands of all generations performing from 7 to 9 p.m. Just get on your cell phone and go to Grafton’s Music in the Park to see who is performing each week.
Roger and Patti Rose spent the weekend with their daughter, son-in-law and family, Kelly, and Mike Lawrence in Marshall, Arkansas. Also joining them was Patti’s sister and her two girls, Lisa and Kathy. They had decided to have a “girl’s weekend” and dress like Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company. It brought smiles to many people, a few confused looks and many stopped them to take their photo. As Patti said, “Life is unpredictable so make those special memories while you can”. Sounds like they had a great time visiting the Lawrence family for the weekend.
Charles and Judy Burch spent a 3-day weekend in New York City recently. There they attended their granddaughter, Catherine Stedman’s performance as she sang with the St. Louis Children’s Choir at Carnegie Hall. So happy for you Catherine, that was quite an honor. She is the daughter of Vince and Caroline Stedman of Clayton, MO. While in the “Big Apple” they enjoyed a Broadway Show and visited other places of interest.

PRAYER FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY (JULY 4TH)
Loving God, We greet this Fourth of July with grateful hearts as we call to mind the vision of freedom and justice for all upon which our country was built. Bless those who have served and others who continue to serve for our freedom. Forgive our shortcomings as a nation, purify our hearts to see and love the truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen
